Chapter 34: Darkness Made Reality

Summer: "Eighteen...years?...But that can't be right. I remember coming here like it was yesterday."

Vergil: Summoning himself. "It seems The Underworld has time-altering capabilities making to where time moves slower here than it does in the mortal world."

Summer: "AAh! A ghost!" She screams as she falls over from surprise.

Falke: "Really, Vergil? What have I told you about doing that when people aren't prepared for it. You nearly scared the life out of her. Sorry about that, Aunt Summer, he's not a people person." Holding out his hand as he helps her up. 

Summer: "So? Uhm, it's nice to meet you, Mr. Vergil. How is it that you are here?"

Vergil: "That is an explanation that we do not have time for. If we hope to get back before we miss too much, then we must find the other two."

Summer: "Wait, you came here with others? Who else did you bring?"

Falke: "I came here with Qrow and Ruby. They're currently making their way up the tree."

Summer: "You did what!?" Pinching his ear.

Falke: "Ow! Ow! Ow! Hey, quit it!? She wanted to come here. What was I supposed to do? Not let her."

They both head off towards the top of the tree where Qrow and Ruby are nearing. As Falke and Summer made their way up, Falke filled summer in on what happened while she was missing.

Summer: "I can't believe Ozpin did that to you, and he had Yang and your friend Jaune do that to both of you. I thought he was the good guy, but I don't know what to believe anymore after hearing that. I'm just glad you and your girlfriend were able to survive."

Vergil: "Yes...your girlfriend."

Summer: "What's what supposed to mean?" Vergil directed her to look at Falke's right hand as she noticed the ring on his finger. "*gasp* Oh My Oum! You're married! I'm so happy for you!" Wrapping her arms around him as she hugs him from behind.

Falke: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks. But that's not important right now. We have to find your daughter and my dad." She nods as she puts him down.

With Qrow and Ruby, they eventually made it to the top of the tree. Both are caught in awe as they look out at the entire expanse of the Underworld.

Qrow: "It's almost like it never ends."

Ruby: "I don't think it does. Do you think we'll ever find her in this place?"

Qrow: "I don't know, kid. I'm sorry, but if we don't end up finding her, then we might have to come back later on when we finally beat Salem."

Ruby: "*sigh* Ok...I just miss her so much, and I thought...maybe I could see her again." Hugging Qrow as she begins to shed tears.

Qrow: "I know...I really wanted to see her again as well." Wrapping his arms around her as well.

He lets go of her as he feels an uneasy presence around him like a dark figure had just passed through him. But his attention is drawn away as he sees dark clouds begin to surround them overhead. The clouds appear to have red lightning arcing through them. Finally, the clouds stop moving as three huge red lights take shape. Back with Falke and Summer, Vergil feels this presence as well stopping the two.

Falke: "Vergil? What's wrong?"

Vergil: "I feel a being darkness I haven't felt in a long time. We need to leave. Now." They all than hear a booming voice. Its voice echoes throughout the entire tree.

???: "Heh, heh, heh...It seems one of my brother's children has finally decided to return after all these years. So you've come to avenge your brother's death by my hands, little boy. Oh, you fool, I'll be sure to torture your mind for all eternity. And what shall I do with these insects that dare to enter into my domain, hmmm? How about I start by annihilating these two gnats."

They then hear the sound of lightning striking from above them.

Falke: "Summer, hurry up to the top. I'm going to buy you some time. You with me, Vergil?" Looking to see a deep uneasiness from his Grandfather. 

Vergil: "......yes. Let us go and avenge Dante."

Falke transforms into his Pure Demonic Form and flies up to the top of the tree as Summer follows behind as fast as possible with her semblance. Making it to the top, he lands to see both Qrow and Ruby being tortured by this being as it sends red lightning coursing through them, both screaming in pain and agony.

Falke/Vergil/Demon: "Leave them alone, you, bastard!!"

The attacks stop as the being sends the two huntsmen flying across the large open platform with a single blast of red lightning.

Mundus: "Oh, and who might you be? You exude demon energy but also reek with the stench of human blood. Aaaahhhh, now it all makes sense. You are the presence I sensed. He is bound to you, isn't he, child. Such a mighty son of Sparda forced to share a body with that of a lowly human child. How...ironic. But where are my manners? You've chosen to combat me, yet we don't even know each other's names. I am the mighty king of the Underworld, MUNDUS. And you are?"

Falke/Vergil/Demon: "Falke Schnee Branwen, great grandson of the Dark Slayer Vergil Sparda."

Mundus: "Oh. Well then, Falke Schnee Branwen, I'll be sure to let your loved ones know who caused them their pain while I tear their souls from existence. Now Die."

Mundus shoots a bolt of red lightning towards Falke as he uses the Yamato to re-direct it away from him. Then, unfurling his wings, he launches into the dark clouds, Yamato in hand. Back with Ruby and Qrow, he feels someone begin to help him up.

Qrow: "Son...is that you?" His eyes are heavy as his whole body aches in pain, but he's able to hear the voice next to him.

Summer: "Sorry best buddy, but your son is currently fighting the king of hell. Now come on, we have to get Ruby out of here."

Qrow: "S-summer?" 

Qrow, now able to pick himself up to his knee, sees Summer pick up Ruby as he turns to see his son in his Demonic Form flying through the air fighting the three red orbs that appeared. The Yamato cleaves through the entity as both blue and red lightning shoots out from the dark clouds.

Summer: "Come on, Qrow! We can't stay here!" She says as she is carrying Ruby.

As the three of them leave, Falke comes crashing down onto the ground. Transforming back to his human form, he falls to one knee breathing heavily.

Mundus: "Hahahahaha, you FOOL! I have done nothing but gain power since all those years ago, and you think just because you carry a 'fancy' sword and can use demonic power. That you think you can stand against me! You know what? I think killing you would be a waste. How about I dominate your mind and body and make it my new vessel. Yes...and I'll use it to slaughter every last person you love, forcing you to watch every second of it."

Vergil: "I think not." Falke looks up to see Vergil standing next to him.

Demon: "We shall defeat you and head back to the mortal realm." Summoning itself to the left of Falke.

Vergil: "And you will remain here. A despot king of a despot world."

Falke: Standing up next to the two figures. "Damn right."
