EEY TIE I TIK I can salvage Aleksander's humanity, he proves me wrong. I plop onto the thin mattress on the floor. I have always feared the dark, but this is different. The shadows that engulf me are calling to me. Embracing me. Could it be because of me and the Darkling's connection? Is this his power that I am feeling? I don't like the shadow's influence on my mind. They begin to be overwhelming as I want to fall deeper into their clutches.

I try to call the light, but I soon realize what the gloves were made for. They hinder my summoning, blocking the light's ability to come to me.

I lay on the bed and shut my eyes tightly in hopes that I will fall asleep to escape this feeling of being consumed by shadows. Sure enough, I slowly slip into a dream. However, I find out very quickly that it is not a dream, but rather a nightmare.

"Alina?" I hear a voice call out. It is muted in the rumbles of the fold, but I'd recognize the voice anywhere. Mal. I can't see anything in front of me, but I hear echoed voices all around me.

"Mal?" I call out into the distance.

"Alina. You did this to me." His voice is closer now.

"I did what? Where are you!"

Suddenly, Mal appears from the shadows and I get the same warm feeling within me as I see him. The emotion quickly ceases when I look down at his torso. He holds his hand to his stomach, which has a large gash that continues all the way through him. I scream and hold a hand to my mouth.

"You did this to me."

"No, I would never do this to you, Mal."

" You wanted the plan to fail, so you could live your eternity with him, didn't you? You chose the Black Heretic over me."

"No, I-"

"You sent me there to die!"

"No!" I cry.

"You did this to us."

I whip around to see a group of soldiers. I recognize them as every soldier I lost on the battlefield while fighting the Darkling. And now the are standing behind me. They all echo what Mal had said. "You did this to us. You did this to us. You did this to us."

I put my hands to my ears and shut my eyes, but it does not filter the cries of everyone around me. "Stop! Please, make it stop!"

To my surprise, it does. When I open my eyes, I am alone in the darkness. Even the cries of the Volcra cease.

"Hello?" I start to feel a nervous feeling rise in my chest. I run forward and yell for someone. Anyone. No one answers.

I jump when I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn and see the Darkling looming over me.
