History of You and Me

Chapter 13

I decided to try a new-old thing with my hair. I used to use ribbon bows all the time but always would use them for ponytails, pigtails, braids, etc. but today I took a few pieces of hair from the front of my head and tied them back. It felt weird to dress up to see Steve when I did practically nothing to see Bucky.

There was a knock at my door. I grabbed my bag and opened the door.
"Hi Bucky"
I said embracing him into a hug
"You look really great"
He said looking me up and down
"Thanks"
I smile

We got in a cab and drove to Steve's place.
Bucky cleared his throat making me look from out the window to him.

He motioned down to his hand. He was holding one ticket looking pieces of paper
"What?"
I said looking from his hands to his eyes
"Would you like to be my plus one to a gala.. dance.. party.. thing"
He then showed the second ticket
"You don't have to say yes"
He says
I take a ticket from him
"I'd love to"
I kiss his cheek

We made it to Steve's place. Bucky whispered to me
"Go stay on the wall. I'll say I have a surprise. But when I say 'the surprise is' that's when you show yourself"
"Ok great idea"
I whisper back

I do what he says just as he knocks on the door.
The door creaks open
"Oh- hey buck how are you"
Steve says
It's weird hearing his voice

"I know I'm coming unannounced but um"
He quickly glances over at me. He's horrible at surprises
"I have a surprise for you"
"Good or bad?"
Steve asks
"I-I think it's good"

Bucky clears his throat.
"Well uh.. the surprise is.."
He trails off and I pop out and stand beside Bucky
"I don't understand"
Steve says confused

He looks a lot more.. everything

"Please tell me you remember Diane"
Bucky says
"Well of course I-"
Steve says but breaks his word off
"Hi Steve"
I says softly and he looks at me. His face full of confusion

"Diane?"
He asks and i nod
"H-h-how?"
He stutters
I've never seen Steve stutter like this, it's quite entertaining
"Same way you did"
I say with a warming smile

I take a step forward and put my arms around his neck to hug him. He's practically squishing me as we hug but I love it
"I missed you"
His voice breaking making me just hug him longer

Bucky Steve and I go inside. I tell Steve everything. I talk about how life was without them and about Peggy.

Steve then tells me he's stepped down from being Captain america
"Why?"
I ask
"I got tired. After the big fight I just- I couldn't do it anymore"
"But a friend of ours, sam, took over. He's a great guy, you've gotta meet him sometime"
Bucky adds

Steve looks at the clock
"I have to go"

I frown and we all stand up
"I'm really happy to see you though, Diane"
He says taking my hands into his. I give him one more hug before Bucky and I left.
We walked down the street to find a cab and once we did Bucky seemed more quiet then usual.

So I said
"I'm really excited for that gala. I cant remember the last time I danced"
Bucky nods then looks out the window

What happened..

"Buck.. what's wrong"
I ask him Bucky he shrugs
"Nothing"

I turn his head to me
"What's wrong"
I say in a more stern tone
"I'm just- I- I'm thinking"
"About?"
He hesitates then says
"The gala"

That definitely was not what he was thinking about but I can take a hint and lay off him

"You two make a great couple"
The cab driver said
Bucky and I started to laugh quietly but quickly  concealed ourselves
"W-we aren't a couple"
I tell him and the driver laughs awkwardly
"Oh I apologize"

"No you're fine"
Then I look over at Bucky who's blushing
"He definitely has a thing for me though"
I tease

"Ha- right"
Bucky says looking out the window
