Chapter 30

Bucky

So right after I planned my date with Diane I instantly went to go find the perfect outfit.
Diane is always dressed to impress so I thought I would match that.
We never said how fancy we were going to go so I just got a black shirt and nice black pants and got a blazer too.. also black. I'm started to think I should branch out to more colors

As I got home Celia was walking up the stairs, she was struggling.
"Oh hello dear"
She said straining but trying to keep her cool
"Let me help you"
I say taking her hand and helping her up the stairs until the last step and we were at our apartments
"I wish this darn place had an elevator"
"They decided to keep it authentic to when it was built I guess"
I say with a smile
"Oh don't grow up dear it's horrible"
She says slightly annoyed
"I don't plan on it"
"Good. Stay young"
She unlocks her apartment but she notices my outfit in its plastic cover
"What's that?
She points
I look down at it
"Outfit for my and Diane's date"

She gasps
"Date? Finally. I saw sparks the second I met you two"
She opens the door to her apartment and says one last thing
"Well goodluck"

I go into my apartment and take the outfit out of the plastic and place it on my couch
What if I just went with a leather jacket. Is that not formal enough.
I don't know how to do these things, especially with my best friend.

I try to take a deep breathe to get rid of the nerves but it doesn't work. Only one person I think could help me right now

"Hey buck?"
"Hey Steve I have a question"
"What's up?"
"Is a normal shirt, blazer, and nice pants too much or too little for a movie and dinner date?"
"Date?!"
Steve practically screams over the phone
"Man why didn't you tell me you have a date. Who with?"
I swallow hard
".. Diane"
"Finally"
"Everyone's saying that- could you please just answer my question"
"My bad- No I think that's fine. What color is it though?"
I clear my throat
"Black.. all of it black"
"Dude"
"What?"
"Throw another color in there. Haven't you heard Diane loves you in white- do a white shirt"
I cant help but smile
"She said that?"
"Yeah she would say that to me every time you wore white"
"Ok- great. Thank you Steve"
"Anytime. Let me know how it goes afterward."
"Absolutely"

I hang up and find a white shirt in my closet and throw that in with the outfit instead.

Time passes until it's 3:40. I get ready and even put some gel in my hair.
Perfect.
It's 3:50 when I look at the clock when I'm done and then it hits me
I should get flowers. I quickly look up where the nearest flower place is and go to it.

I slip on my shoes and grab the keys to my motorcycle.
I barley ever drive it but today Is a motorcycle kinda day. So I drive to the place, which is really near and I go inside.
Thank gosh I got ready early.

I go in and the guy inside was just taking off his apron
"Sir I was just about the close"
He says
"I'm very sorry but I really need flowers"
"Ok"
He says and comes over to the counter
"Could I just get a really beautiful bouquet of flowers?"
"Sure I have some pre-made ones in the back. Any specific color scheme?"
I shake my head and he goes to the back then he brings out a perfect bouquet of flowers
"Thanks"
I say and hand him some money
"No prob. Goin' on a date?"
I nod
"You?"
I ask cause the guy is in a tux
"Uh yeah sorta"
He says putting the change into my hand
"But I think the girl really likes me. Probably gonna go to 3rd base"

What does that mean. 3rd base? Baseball?
"Nice"
Is all I say
"Well good luck man"
The guy says to me as I walk out and I say the same to him.

Weird guy.
I get back in my motorcycle and cover the flowers in my blazer as I drive

I go to the movie place and wait outside of the place.
4:15. Good time.

I'm early so I decide to look at the movie posters while I wait
I watch people walk in and out of the theatre

Ok she should be here soon.
I smell pizza from the pizza place across the street. Smells so good.
4:35
Probably will be here in 5 minutes

I get bored so I just look at the flowers and mess around with them. But I decide to stop when I almost break one.

She probably looks great
I imagine tonight is going to be great. I just imagine what the night is going to be like until
5:00
She must have a good reason she's not here yet

I wonder what the longest time someone has stood for

We should watch the alien movie or the romance one. I know she loves romance so she'll probably want that
5:30
I wonder if there's a movie about the avengers
I should really watch more movies
I should get out more I never get out
5:40
Should I text her. Or would that be weird. What if this is like An affair to remember situation. No way.
"You good? Want to make a call?"
The ticket lady asks me
"No I'm alright"
5:55
Now it's dark
That's alright

Then
Suddenly
I see her.
Across the street at the pizza place
She's wearing a blue dress and her hair perfectly draped over her shoulders
God she looks amazing
Did she forget we were going to meet at the movies first then go eat. I guess I didn't make that clear

But then a guy follows her out and takes her hand.
Weird
Then kisses her
What
"Are you ok?"
The ticket lady calls out
I guess I was showing my confusion on my face
"Yeah- fine- I'm- yeah"
I walk over to her and look at the flowers
"Can you take these"
"And do what with them..?"
"Keep them. I don't think I'll be needing them"
"Oh okay. Have a good day sir"
"Yeah thanks- I don't think i will"

I wait for the cars to part then I walk across the street.
She and the guy were talking on the side
"Diane!"
I call out and she looks at me and her jaw drops
"Who's that"
The guy says quietly

Anger rushes through me
6:01
"Bucky-"
She rushes over to me
"I can explain"
She says
"Explain what? That we had a date! And you bailed on me for 'some guy' across the place we were supposed to go. Is that what you're going to explain?"
".. it was actually a date..?"
She says in a small voice
"Yes it was a fucking date that what I said it was!"
I start to yell and start to attract stares but I don't even care
"Oh god.."
She mumbles.
"I meant to cancel I'm-"
"What?!"
I take a step back from her
"So why didn't you? Just make me suffer. I've been across the street with flowers since four!"
I yell and she opens her mouth but no words come in so her boy steps in
"That's how I know you."
Then it hits me
The guy from the flower shop

I clench my fist.
I want to kill someone right now

Tears roll down Diane's cheeks then she notices my hands and grabs my shoulders
"Bucky!"

The feeling of how I used to feel when I was the winter Solider rushes over me but I quickly push it away and just stick my hands in my pockets
"I can't believe you'd do this to me Diane."
I accidentally shoot to hurt her and it does. She steps back from me and looks at me with eyes filled with tears
"I thought you were my best friend that I've known forever.. But right now you're just looking like everyone else."

I say backing away

"You can't even say anything"
I say looking her in the eyes
"Bucky.."
She winces
"Why don't you go"
The guy goes beside her says to me
I scoff
I walk over to him and punch him with my left.. metal.. arm.. oops
The guy starts to bleed and Diane puts her hand to his cheek
"Goodnight Diane"
I say walking across the street to get on my motorcycle and leave.
