MERRICK

Wow! That was unexpected and so random. Never saw that coming at all. Guess it isn't a bad thing though neither.

I know I said I wouldn't be going around that path and I started off being a couple miles in the opposite direction until I smelled a foul odor that gave away there were strangers and the moment I heard her help, I knew I needed to help her.

Although it will be interesting when she see's it's ME - the asshole.

Who knows though, maybe we can both start over again. I did after all, save her life.

When the next day arrived, I was going back and forth in my head if rather or not this was a good idea and if she would get upset knowing it was me. I suppose there's only one way to find out.

After taking in a deep breath and letting it out the moment I noticed her standing outside waiting in front of the pizza place, I started to become a bit nervous for some reason.

Then I pushed away any doubt I was feeling and walked right up to her, to which she looked at me and rolled her eyes in disappointment.

"Hey." I greeted her.

"Please leave me alone, I'm not in the mood." She says while looking around.

"Waiting for someone?" I ask her with a cocked eyebrow and smirk.

The minute she turned to look at me with a glare, she immediately changed her facial expression to being surprised as soon as I turned my eyes to the green shade my wolf has and I knew in that moment, she knew it was me she was waiting for.

"Oh my god." She mutters.

"Shall we?" I winked and smirked before opening up the door for her and still surprised, she walked inside, with me behind her.

After we ordered some food and grabbed a drink, we sat down at a table in the back corner of the place and I have to admit, it was hard not to check her out.

"So it was you who saved me?" She mentions.

THAT'S the first thing she asks? Alright, I'll take it, I guess.

"Yeah." I smiled. "Is that a problem?"

"No. I still mean what I said. I'm still thankful." She smiles a little in return with her head held up high.

We both continue sitting there for another few minutes sharing awkward silence and taking sips of our drink before our food order is up.

I go to grab it and bring it back to the table where we start eating and make the best of things by trying to get to know each other and I think we both realize towards the end of the evening that we have quite a few things in common.

"MERRICK?! Holy shit, is that you?!" Some girl I haven't seen since the day I left walked up to us.

"Jillian?" I remembered.

"I heard you were in town, but I didn't believe it. What are you doing back?" She asks.

"I missed home." I tell her jokingly.

"Damn, your timing couldn't be any worse. Then again, you were never good with time." She smiles and winks at Mara.  "My husband and I are leaving tomorrow to go back home. We only came here to visit my folks. If you're ever in Baltimore though, hit me up." She mentions before saying goodbye and walking away.

"Thanks." I replied. Then once she left, I suddenly felt bad and rude for not even introducing Mara. But what would I have even said she was?

"Sorry, we're just friends." I reassure her so that she doesn't feel jealous.

Wait, she hasn't yet acknowledged that we are mates yet.

"It's not my business." She smiles.

"Still, it was rude." I apologize again.

"I accept your apology." She tells me in a joking way.

After we finished dinner and we stepped outside, the air seemed to have become colder, so I offered to take her home in my car.

The moment we pulled into her driveway, she started thanking me for the ride and although both my wolf and I desperately wanted to kiss her and make a move, I felt we shouldn't because there was a part of me that felt like she may regret it tomorrow. Not to mention the fact she still hasn't commented or even hinted that we are mates.

"I really wish you would have let me pay for tonight. After all, it was me who owed you." She tells me for the third time tonight.

"How about you get lunch for us tomorrow?" I suggest.

My god, it is truly taking everything in me right now to not devour her entirely and make her feel like no other man has ever made her feel.

"Okay." She agrees.

"Cool. I'll pick you up at noon." I smiled.

She smiles more now then says goodnight before she gets out and I watch her walk inside the house before I begin heading back home.

Wow, and here I thought I would regret coming back home.

Despite not understanding some things about her not mentioning or even hinting tonight at all about us being mates, I am glad that there's hope in things turning around. In fact, I am surprised she has agreed to want to see me again but as I mentioned moments ago, things went differently than I believe we both and expected them to tonight and who knows what will happen.
