MARA

Well, today was the day. The Alpha Games were about to start and I had just given Merrick a kiss before being escorted out of the room where he was getting ready, by both my parents and his.

While heading towards the best spot you could sit at where it overlooked the entire arena, I felt myself becoming upset and finding it more difficult to keep myself composed.

We had sat down in what they call 'the box' where only councilmen and a few family members may sit to watch. I had paid no attention to Roman and I couldn't see Goldwyn.

I began thinking that maybe he was in the room where Jericho was preparing himself.

Everybody was here. Not just wolves but others and everyone seemed to be cheering as if they were watching a random game of sports. They're cheering even was drowning out the thoughts and panic in my head, to which I can't complain or deny was nice but at the same time was also very upsetting.

Now to me this was no sports game. This was a sick and twisted battle that was going to end badly and gruesome for someone. I have hope in my mate but can't help myself from feeling fearful at the same time.

The worst part to me out of this whole thing was that I can't help him of he is hurt or looks like he needs help.

"It will be alright, child." Merrick's mother tries to reassure me.

"Yeah." I force a smile on my face and try to cover the tears that are about to fall from my eyes.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Thank you all for coming to this event." Roman began to announce over the microphone to everybody. "It has been a very long time since we have had one of these and would like to welcome you all!"

I could tell in his voice he too didn't like the idea of having this happen and it made me begin to think about what mine and Merrick's parents had mentioned to us last night about Roman and his true and honest intentions with Goldwyn and I began thinking maybe he really isn't a bad guy and truly was trying to help Merrick's father and them.

Right as I hear him finish announcing both Jericho and Merrick's names, I look down at the center of the place and see Merrick and Jericho stand a few feet from one another. They both look at each other and then focus back at the obstacles in this course they will have to endure before they do their final and most daunting task once finished running, they must fight each other. In their wolf forms.

Roman starts telling them to get ready and to shift into their forms now. That's exactly what they do. Their growls towards one another echoes throughout the arena and I am more than happy to hear Merrick's is more threatening and gutteral than Jericho's. My man is about to kick some ass.

Next thing I hear is a loud Roman telling them to 'GO!' Then they both sprint towards their first obstacle.

Each obstacle tests your endurance, speed and not to mention testing your strength both mentally and physically. You have to make it through pain. It tests you on all those levels in both human form and your wolf.

Overall, looking at the obstacles and course all together, it looks as though it is a labyrinth of pure torture to a degree and I can understand as to why it eventually was stopped but also, it is very scary for the most part because you can't see everything they are doing - have to wait to see when and which one makes it out to be announced the winner.

Moments have passed and all we heard was growling and grunts. I can't mindlink or connect in any way to Merrick because they had to turn off the mindlink so there were no distractions or interruptions.

My heart was racing, palms were sweaty and my breathing, well, let's just say I caught myself at a couple moments letting out a breath here and there without realizing I was ever holding it in.

There were a lot in the crowd whose cheers echoed throughout the entire place and then I noticed many others who were just as appalled and unhappy with what all was happening. My eyes suddenly then stopped the moment I spotted my father several feet from where we were at and he had the audacity to grin maliciously at me while all I could do was glare back at him in complete and utter disgust.

Then a quick moment later, the entire crowd uproars in hysteria and all stand up out of their seats cheering louder than ever. Once I snapped my head to see what they were cheering about, I felt relieved as I noticed Merrick, although badly injured, I could tell was alive. I didn't even care that I couldn't see Jericho. In fact, he could have been killed for all I cared right now, by Merrick and I don't care.

I just smiled and started tearing up with so much happiness and joy that I told my parents and his I was going to go see him.

Without any hesitation of any kind. I had done just that and started sprinting as fast as I could down the many stairs until I had gotten out to where he was with him looking around for me.

He had gotten dressed already before stepping out with the clothes that are always left at the end of the labrinth for each of the contestants.

And despite how he looked or felt, we held one another and I kissed him and hugged him tightly.  He made it. He's alive. I knew he could do it.

"I told you I was gonna win." He smiles at me.

"I know. I'm just so happy." I smiled and kissed him again.

Now we can have our forever.
