It's 10am and I'm at work, working on Casy's case, sounds like I'm a lawyer or something but you know what I mean. Today is the day, the day that I'm gonna operate on Casy. Although.. she doesn't know it yet.

Haven't told Casy a thing because I don't want her hopes too high up. I'm trying everything I can, but I need permission first. Yup. I need to talk to either her mom or her dad.

I walk over to Casy's room and she's asleep. Little angel fast asleep. I check her IV needle and after a short moment, someone knocks on the door behind me. A woman. Pale face, greasy hair, dark circles under her eyes and very thin. She gives me a smile and stands at the doorway.

"Can I come in?" She asks and I nod at her. "Hi, I'm doctor Russo." I say as I give my hand.

"Hi, I'm Samantha. I'm Casy's mom." She says and my eyes widened immediately. Wasn't expecting to see her. Was expecting her dad, or neither of them. I've never met her mom in my life. And the fact that she was in rehab for months.

"I uh, I heard you can fix my Casy?" She says as she takes a seat next to Casy's bed. Her hands are all shaky and she looks like she's about to throw up any second now.

"I'm gonna try. I need your permission." I say as I give her a paper so she can sign it.

"How big is the chance you can save her?" She says with a raspy voice, she's sick, I can tell. She's also on drugs again.

"4% maybe?" I say and she stands up.

"4%? That's nothing." She says and I give her an apologizing smile.

"I know, it's a big surgery and her tumor had already spread out. So, it's hard to get it all out without damaging the brain around it." I say and she strokes Casy's cheek.

"Why even try."

"Because she has nothing to lose." I say to her. Maybe a bit too forward but it's the truth. She's dying anyways sooner or later. At least now I can try to save her.

"I should go." She says and she hands me the papers that she filled in so that I have permission to operate on her.

"Wait, I could wake Casy up. I think she would love to see you." I say but Samantha grabs her coat and shakes her head.

"She can't know I was here, neither can Paul, my husband. It's for the best." She says and she gives Casy a kiss on her forehead.

"I love you baby, mommy loves you very much." She says and she walks over to me and gives me a hug out of nowhere.

Catches me by surprise but I wrap my arms around her too. "Thank you, for taking care of my Casy. Thank you for giving her a good Christmas that me and my husband couldn't give her." She says and she puts her hoodie of her jacket on her head and walks away.

Okay so now I know that she wasn't supposed to be here. I know that she's taking drugs again because I could tell. Everyone could tell. And now I know what she's been doing with the 10.ooo bucks James gave her. Drugs, alcohol, cigarettes etc...

"Chief?" A nurse says as he comes in Casy's room. God, I need to get used to this but I'm loving it. Chief. Feels good. Feels really really good.

"Yes?" I say with confidence. Even though I'm 24 and the nurse is like 30 or something. He's, my bitch. Everyone here is my bitch. Everyone needs to listen to motherfucking Candac- this exactly the reason why I shouldn't be Chief.

"Should I prep Casy for the surgery?" He says and I nod. "I need the OR." I say and he nods as he walks away.

"Wake up little girl." I say as I stroke my hand over her forehead.
