Part 52

"Candace, you can't leave me like that." James says while I'm laying on a hospital bed with my eyes closed after the surgery.

He takes my hand as he leans on the bed, hiding his face in my arm.

"Come on baby, you can't come into my life and then leave me." He whispers as he sniffs one time.

"I can't lose you and Casy at once. You two are my girls. I can't lose my girls." Everything happened in one day. Everything happened so fast.... I was watching movies with Miles and Louis last night and now I'm here.

"Candace, I need you. We're supposed to get married and have babies. I want that, I want you, Casy and another baby." He squeezes my hand and strokes my cheek carefully.

"God, do you know how much I love you? You made me love you from the moment you talked to me."

He's staring at me like he has never seen me before. Like this is the first time he lays his eyes on me.

"Candace if you and Casy die, I wanna join you. What am I supposed to do without you?" He says and his eyes are getting red and wet.

"I'm serious, I have no idea what to do if you're not here with me. This is all my fault, and I would take your place if I could."

"I'm so sorry that this happened to you. You did nothing wrong you know that right? You did nothing wrong."

"I uh... I prayed while you were in surgery. I know I don't pray, or believe in whatever is up there... but Casy prays... You pray... I should listen to my girls. You're always right..."

"I said that you both don't deserve this. That you two are the most important things in my life. Both amazingly smart and gorgeous. I need you two to wake up."

"I know you would laugh at me right now since I laughed at you too."

A nurse walks in with some paperwork but James doesn't notice, or he just doesn't care since he keeps talking.

"Marry me, Candace."

"Please just... wake up and give me a chance to propose to you." He says as he's looking at my face while playing with my hair. "You look like Ariel but real."

"Oh, is she asleep again?" The nurse says while she keeps her eyes on a clipboard.

"Again?" James says as he looks in her direction. She looks away from her board at James with just her eyes and then at me.

"She woke up hours ago when you were asleep. I gave her some medication, she ate a little bit, we talked and now she's fine." She says and I open my eyes as I let out a sigh.

"Really? He wasn't done talking. I wanted to hear it!" I say as I let my arms fall down on each side of me.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" He says loud but I can see a smile on his face.

"You'd never say all that if I was awake so I had t-" I say but before I could finish my sentence, he stands up and hugs me.

"Thank God." He says while hugging me tight. He doesn't let go for a long moment until I let out a chuckle.

"You prayed... We should totally go to church together." I say with a smile, and he gives me a smirk in return.

The nurse walks over to us and gives me some pills and water while James sits next to me in bed.

"So, everything is fine with her?" He asks the nurse while stroking the back of my head.

"Perfectly fine, you saved her life by taking out the bullet. You did a great job." She says with a smile, and she writes some things down on a paper.
