*The Voight Residence: Nighttime*

Ana was sitting on the front steps of her house, cigarette in one hand and phone in the other.

". . .Well it doesn't seem that bad and it's not like it's anything Kim hasn't done before." She pointed out, taking a drag. "If this Kendra girl wants to know what a day in the life of a police officer looks like, who am I to stop her?"

"I knew you'd understand." Kate chuckled.

"I just appreciate you letting me know beforehand." The brunette smiled.

"Of course. Kim is apart of your team. It wouldn't be right of me to do this without you knowing first." The blonde reasoned.

"Oh, and if you need to be a hardass to keep Kelton from getting suspicious I'm totally fine with that." Ana assured.

"Gun violence isn't the whole story. Overall crime is down 9%. No, it's not fake news. Do you know what? I am sick of people saying it's fake news." Kate suddenly blurted out.

"Kim's there, isn't she?" The brunette smirked despite knowing the other woman couldn't see it.

"I gotta jump." The blonde confirmed.

"Bye, Katie." Ana smiled, softly, before pulling the phone away from her ear and ending the call.

The brunette took one last drag from her cigarette and walked back inside her house. She proceeded to put the stub out in the ash tray on the coffee table before heading upstairs and joining her husband in their shared bedroom.

*District 21: The Next Morning*

Ana walked in and towards the stairs. Trudy was silent as she buzzed her best friend in but the brunette thought nothing of it. She went through the gate and up the stairs, spotting everyone at their respective desks. She also caught sight of Hank over by the whiteboard, which was full of information so it was only right to assume they had caught another case. The female Sergeant continued in that direction and winked at Alvin, who was seated at his desk, on the way by.

"Morning guys." Ana smiled, stopping in front of the older man and turning around. "So, what do we have?"

Her smile faded when she realized every single one of her team members was looking at her with an expression composed of hatred and disgust. Before the brunette could even ask, she felt her husband move behind her and turned around. Ana hoped he had an answer but Hank just gazed down at her with an ice-cold glare. It was the one he reserved mostly for criminals and when he was extremely pissed off but never ever used on his wife. Up until now that is. The older man pressed something into her hand and the brunette teared up, covering her mouth with the other, when she realized what it was. . .his wedding ring.

"Wh-"

Her attempt at asking a question was cut off by a weak, soft, quiet, murmur.

"Why couldn't you have gone to Wood's house sooner?"

Ana looked over to her right with wide, glassy, eyes and the tears finally fell at what she saw. Alvin was now in a beige prisoner's uniform, clutching at his stomach as blood began pouring out of several different stab wounds. The brunette was frozen in her spot, unable to speak or move no matter how much she wanted to.

"Why did you have to kill Kevin Bingam?"

*Bedroom*

Ana gasped awake, panting with a silent scream on her lips as she took in her suroundings. The darkness of the room and the silence of the night led her back to the arms wrapped around her small body. The brunette turned onto her side and laid her head on Hank's chest. The woman sniffled and forced herself to listen to his steady heartbeat, using it to calm herself down. Once she had her bearings, Ana gently shook her husband awake.
