"These are ultrasonic emitters--" Argent told us, pulling out a metal rod from one of his bags in the trunk of his car. "It's one of the tools we use to corral werewolves, pushing them into a direction we want them to run." He pressed the button on top and a sudden sharp sound emitted from it. I wince and cover my ears. This was worse than Lydia's screams."It gives off a high-pitched frequency that only they can hear."
My mom groaned from the loud noise, we all had covered our ears to block out the horrible noise, Argent looked up when he realized that. "No shit."
Argent turned it off and handed all of a pair. Derek tossed the rod from one hand to the other. "These are gonna drive them to the school?"
Argent nodded. "And then, it's up to you to get them into the basement."
Isaac spoke up. "Does anyone else want to rethink the plan where we just, uh...kill them?" I punched Isaac in the arm for his comment. We had already talked about this. And that is not happening. "We are not killing them. This isn't their fault."
It's going to work. It'll work. It has to work.
For the next few minutes we all spent it placing the transmitters around town, from the preserve all the way to the school. I hoped and prayed that Cora and Boyd would hear. The sound hurt every time a stick was turned on, but I ignored the sound as much as I could. This was all to get them back, get them back safe.
I crouch on the ground, placing the final rod just out side the school. "Isabelle-" Argent called. He stared at a firefly up in the sky, waving me over. "Do you see that?"
I approached him, looking up at the small little firefly. "Yeah. It's a firefly." I state the obvious, I saw Boyd claw at a bunch of them, thankfully them and not those kids.
"No, no," He mumbled. "I know, I-" I frown, waiting for him to get to the point. Why was he rambling about a small little firefly? "What?"
"It's, uh...it's very unusual. The, uh, Californian fireflies aren't bioluminescent." He explained.
My frown deeps into confusion. "They don't glow?" I look up at the firefly, it's glowing yellow hue.
"Does that mean something?"
He shrugged not knowing. It was strange I'll admit that, but it can't mean anything. Right? There came a loud roar from the field. My heart skipped a nervous beat. They're here. Argent and I without another word ran to his parked SUV, I jumped in the passenger seat and he quickly sped for the entrance.
Cora and Boyd stood at the front entrance, claws extended to get at Isaac. "Oh, great." Isaac turned around and got ready for them. Argent honked the horn which scared Cora and Boyd off.
Derek and my parents were waiting inside for them. Argent and I got down from the car and ran as the two of them jumped for the roof. I skidded to a stop, looking up after them in shock. "What the hell?"
