I thought I'd be used to it. Death. I've seen so much of it. My family, my pack. Allison and I- our friendship got complicated. But we fixed it. We did. And now she's gone. I guess I'm still not used to death. We haven't had much of a chance to process her death. But the scene replayed in my head a million times.
Argent was handling this better than I expected. I didn't realize that when they train you to be a hunter they made them learn how to compartmentalize their emotions. Mom was worried about him. It wasn't enough that he lost his wife, his sister, his father (sort of) and now he lost the last family he had. His daughter. Mom and I knew better than anyone what all that pent up anger and sadness does to a person. We lost Peter to that.
We had to call it in. Called my aunt and Stilinski. Argent made us rehearse our cover story what felt like a million times. It was stuck in my head now.
"Can you remember anything else?" Parrish asked me as softly as he could. The others had already given their statement. I had just finished telling them what had happened. What Argent grilled into our heads. I shake my head, wiping the tears away. "No." Nancy rubs my shoulder. I looked up at Parrish. "That's it."
The official story is that we were jumped by masked men who demanded our car, it all happened so fast. Allison refused and well- I've gotten used to lying. I've done it since the moment I could talk clearly. Lied to my friends about what I was, about why I had to cancel plans every full moon. But lying about this just felt- wrong. Allison died a hero really, not as some victim of a mugging gone wrong.
Nancy has to stay back with Parrish so when I exit the office, the ones waiting for me are Lydia and Scott. Scott was silent on the seats as he waited for his turn, no doubt replaying everything again. Our parents were talking with Stilinski, about possible protection from the cops while they find the people that "did this." But we all knew that was probably impossible.
Void had taken control of the Oni, and the only one who had managed to kill one of them happened to be Allison. I was more than sure Void had her killer because of that. We hadn't all come to the station, Stiles and Kira had gone to her house with Ms. Yukimura. I don't fully trust her.
But since Kira was going to be with them I was okay. My phone rings loudly in my pockets, drawing my attention and everyone else's. I apologized as I took my phone and stepped to the side for some privacy seeing as it was Stiles.
"Hello?"
"Hey," Stiles' voice replied. He sounded strained, I don't even want to imagine how he looks right now. "Mrs. Yukimura said that the Nemeton might have enough power to trap the nogitsune."
The nemeton. Well that's great. First of all, it's cut down. Second of all, I doubt that it has much power now anyway. I sniffed, wiping my nose with my sleeve. "Okay. We'll head over to Deatons now."
"Izzie, are you okay?" I could hear the genuine concern in his voice. I nodded even though he couldn't see me. "As long as you live I'll be fine."
"Isabelle-"
"Just don't." I cut him off before he can say anything that can possibly excuse himself for wanting to die. I get it, if he dies there's a possibility the nogitsune dies too. But I can't go there. I don't want to. "I'll call you if anything happens." I don't give him a chance to say anything else because I quickly cut the call.

"Stiles and Kira said it was the Nemeton that kept it trapped." Scott told Deaton. Like I told Stiles, Scott, Lydia and I came to the animal clinic to talk to him about the nemeton. I hoped this would actually work because it it doesn't-
