"In water, there's life."

Through one of the hidden doors of the Iwatobi Swimming Club building, I watch as my twin brother, Makoto Tachibana, offers his hand to our childhood best friend, Haruka Nanase - Haru, doesn't like to be called by his full name - to help him out of the pool.

"Can we go to the entrance ceremony now?" Makoto asked as Haru grabbed Makoto by the hand to pull him out of the pool, "Y/n is probably waiting for us outside," they walked to the boy's locker room.

I stayed behind for a while and stared at the pool water after they walked out. I thought of nothing other than Rin and Gō Matsuoka and our memories here at the pool. I became friends with Gō through Rin because they're siblings, but ever since Rin left, I haven't seen much of Gō, especially because she was never part of the Iwatobi Swimming Club.

I was never officially part of the competition team, I just wanted to swim with my brother...with them. If I'm being honest, I never joined the Swim Club because I liked swimming. I joined because I didn't want to feel left out when it came to Makoto, Haru, Rin, and Nagisa Hazuki. I was a replacement for one of the four boys, just in case, which I was rarely in competitions despite being called, "Queen Marlin of the pool."

Black Marlin's are the fastest sea animals with their highest speed documented at 82 miles per hour.

I looked at the time on my phone and realized, I'm going to be late, so I ran until I saw Makoto and Haru walking through the sidewalk where Cherry Blossoms bloomed, next to an open field, "How did you know where I was going to be?" Haru asked Makoto. Makoto replied with a chuckle, "We've been friends for so long I know everything about you,"

I finally caught up, catching my breath, "You know brother, lying is bad!" I joked with him as I breathed heavily, "Okay, well, maybe not everything," Makoto exhaled, "Y/n seems to know you better than me. She told me where you were," Makoto finished, I laughed – still holding on to dear life by breath, "It was just a guess, and I'm guessing I was right," I said. You're easy to predict," I placed my arm over Haru's shoulders and giggled.

"Right," Haru replied.

"Sister, I didn't get a morning hug from you today," Makoto said, "Oh, you're right!" I freed Haru out of my half hug and walked a couple of steps over to Makoto to give him a bear hug.

I know what he was doing, he was acting protective over me without trying to show it. Makoto is also very easy to read.

"So, know what club you're going to join yet?" Makoto coughed, repeating himself in a deeper voice, "So, have you decided upon a club yet?" trying to act more adult-ish.

"Wait what?" Haru tilted his head.

"Pffffttttt!" I couldn't hold in my laugh any longer at that point. It was too funny.

"What are you laughing at?!" Makoto asked me, "You!" I giggled.

"Starting middle school is a big deal, I just figured now would be the best time to try to sound more mature, you know?" Makoto said, embarrassed.

"Makoto, you're already taller than most high school kids, there's no need for us to grow up quicker than we already are," I smiled.

A sudden gust of air shook the Cherry Blossom Trees and petals were flying through the wind. Haru, Makoto, and I looked up at the sky and there was a huge bird above us...just flying.

Haru grabbed a feather that fell, and at that moment, I knew that bird was Haru, or at least Haru wanted to be like that bird... Free.

After the entrance ceremony, we went to an outdoor board where we could find out names and the classes we will be in this year. Haru and I were both having a hard time seeing our names from afar, "Oh, I'm in class two," Makoto said, "Can you guys not see it? I can check for you both... Um... Haru, class one... and y/n... also class one,"
