"Hey everyone! I'm Rin Matsuoka. Before I came here I went to Sano Elementary School. My name might be girly but you can clearly see that I'm a boy," the young Rin bowed, "Nice to meet everybody!" He stood back up, smiled, and chuckled.

That was the first time I'd laid my eyes on Rin, and he became a part of our little group at school, the four of us - Haru, Makoto, me, and Rin.

"Woah! It's huge! Is it a Cherry Blossom tree?" Rin asked as we walked over to the tree on our elementary school's property.

"Yeah, it is!" Makoto answered.

"Awesome! That means when Spring finally gets here the tree is going to drop a whole bunch of Cherry Blossoms right into the swimming pool!" Rin said as we all turned to the other side of the fence, where the pool was, "Man that'd be so cool! Swimming in Cherry Blossoms."

"That wouldn't be cool, it'll be freezing! Unless you wanna catch pneumonia you better wait for summer to start swimming!" Makoto said.

"Hah!" Rin jumped back a step, turning to us, "I'm just kidding, man! You shouldn't take me so seriously all the time!"

"I've got something I wanna ask you!" Haru finally spoke.

"Ha! Let me guess. You wanna take the new kid a notch on his first day," Rin said.

"Oh, no!" Makoto said.

"Do we look like the type of people to do that or what?" I crossed my arms.

"No! No! I was just..."

"No matter," I smiled.

"We recognize you from a few tournaments we were in," Makoto said.

"What?! You guys remember me?" Rin said, happily.

Haru frowned, "Oh wow! What's with the scary face, man?" Rin asked, "It's not my fault I ended up here when I moved," Rin reached the back of his head and started scratching, "Talk about coincidences, am I right?" He chuckled, nervously.

Later that day...

"Hey everybody! I'm Rin Matsuoka. Before I moved I was in the Sano swimming club. I've got a girlie name, but as you can see... I'm a guy!" Rin spoke at the Iwatobi Swimming Club - Center, which we'd go to every day after school.

"Man, this kind of coincidence is kind of weird. Getting transferred to your school is one thing, but the same swim club is insane," Rin said as we all took turns diving from the board.

"Yeah, it's kind of amazing," Makoto said.

"I say it's fate," I smiled, putting on my goggles

"Fate?" Rin asked.

"It's fate that we'd all end up friends," I said before jumping into the water.

"Wow! They're good swimmers!" Rin said, getting pumped to swim next to us.

"Ah, yeah, that was a good swim!" Rin said as we walked out of the Swim Club's building.

"Hey, where are you going? The back racks are this way," Makoto said.

"Yeah...this is where we part ways. I'm running home!" Rin said.

"Running? How far away do you live?" Makoto asked.

"Abouuuuut three kilometers," Rin thought about it before he answered, waving his hand, "I'll catch ya, later!"

Next day...

"After every team decides what garden they want and what kind of plants to use, I want you to draw a picture of what your garden would look like," Our teacher said.
