"The way you've been improving. You're definitely ready to swim again," the doctor said as he wrote on his notepad.

"Really?" Sousuke asked.

"Yes, be careful not to over-work it though, there's a very real risk of damaging the area again," the doctor said.

"If he damages it again, what happens?" I asked as I stood behind Sousuke with my hands settled on his shoulders.

"He goes back to rehab, that's all. Re-injuring it wouldn't put you out of commission permanently," the doctor explained.

"I guess it's like I'm carrying a bomb on my shoulder, huh?" Sousuke tried to joke about it.

"I wouldn't say it's that serious," the doctor said as we stood up, getting ready to leave.

"Do you want to go for a swim?" I asked Sousuke.

"Not just yet..." Sousuke smiled.

"When you're ready, I'm here."

"Yeah, I know," Sousuke squished my cheeks as we laughed and walked back to our apartment.

"Watch the arms, Mako!" I shouted.

"You're a good trainer," Kissume complimented me.

"Thanks, I was doing it for a while with our old team," I smiled.

"You should keep doing it at Iwatobi," Kissume suggested.

"Nah, that's more Mako's thing, but I'll think about it," I said.

"Hey, guys! Sorry, we're late!" Haru and Asahi said running into the pool area, "Shouldn't you be in the water, not Makoto?" Asahi asked.

"I don't need training but if you guys want me in the water, I'll accept criticism," I laughed as Makoto got out of the pool.

"Seriously?!"

"Yup."

"This whole contest thing is stupid," Kissume said.

"Yeah, he wanted it."

"It's just so childish. A contest for a friendship?" Kissume said.

"I mean, yeah. It's not so far off though. I remember when these guys used to race to have a day with me," I laughed.

"Now that's embarrassing," Asahi said.

"You used to do it, too!" Kissume said, calling Asahi out on his words.

"Pffttt!" I laughed.

"That's why it's embarrassing," Asahi groaned.

"Don't I know you?" A kid walking by the pool asked Makoto.

"Misaki?!" Makoto said.

"Yeah! Hi again!" Misaki said.

"Hi! Good to see you!" Makoto responded.

"Hurry, Misaki!" A kid called him over.

"I'll be right over!" Misaki bowed and ran off.

"Who's that?" Asahi asked.

"That's Misaki. I met him over spring break when I was apartment hunting with Haru. He had a rival he wanted to beat, so he was doing his best to improve his swimming. His coach had just resigned out of the blue since we were there Haru and I helped him practice a little," Makoto explained.

"Sounds familiar," I smiled.

The night of the competition against four-eyes finally arrived, "You're early," he said.
