B25. "You're so warm..." "You're so cold." "Mmh, that's why I like your warmth." and B88. "I've tried to forbid myself from falling in love, but now I can't help it."

The after-heist parties were always full of drunken people and loud noises, and this was even bigger party than most. The heist had taken well over nine hours and brought one hundred thousand kruge worth of treasures with it, making it the biggest heist in a long while.

"Is this taken?" your voice asked, making Matthias look up. You gestured the spot on the couch beside him. He shook his head, and you sighed in relief as you plopped down next to him.

He couldn't help staring at you when you made yourself comfortable on the couch. You were so beautiful.

"Saints, I'm so tired. I've been up since four at the morning," you moaned and rested your head against his shoulder. "You're so warm..."

Matthias couldn't hold in a smile. "You're so cold."

You giggled. "Mmh, that's why I like your warmth."

After a moment, Matthias could feel you sleeping against his shoulder, and when he looked at your sleeping form, his feelings came by crashing like a wave again - his feelings for you. He swallowed, carefully pushing you to lie on the couch on your own before he left the Slat.

Nina saw him walking out and sensed her Fjerdan friend wasn't feeling okay, so she followed him. It didn't take long from her to catch up, grabbing Matthias's shoulder.

"What?" he grumbled and Nina sighed.

"What's the matter?"

Matthias thought for a moment, considering on lying but he ultimately decided to tell the truth. Nina would sense if he was lying anyway.

"It's Y/N," Matthias sighed. "I've tried to forbid myself from falling in love, but now I can't help it."

"Do you love her?" Nina asked. The Fjerdan clenched his jaw and looked away from Nina.

"I can't love her." he mumbled.

"Why not?" Nina questioned, but Matthias didn't answer. "Because she's an evil witch?"

He finally shook his head. "Because she'd be in danger with me. If my old friends ever found me and-"

"They won't find you. Why would they even come to Ketterdam?" she asked and Matthias frowned. "Go to her, big bad wolf. You deserve love and to be loved more than a lot of other people around here."

He knew Nina was telling the truth. There was little to no real reasons why his old friends would try to find him from Ketterdam of all places. But he was still afraid.

But on the other hand, you were a Crow too, and a valued one too. A healer among the Dregs was a necessity as Nina could only numb the pain but not actually mend the bones together and make wounds heal instantly. He knew he wouldn't be the only one to fight if you were to be killed.

Matthias took in a deep breath. Maybe he'd find happiness with you, something he had longed for so long...
