Hearing Matthias's ship had gone down didn't stop you from leaving to a one-person expedition to rescue him. Everyone tried to stop you, tell you that Matthias is dead, there's no way he survived from that storm, but you knew he was alive. You could feel it in your heart, he was alive. He had to be. His light still burned strong.

You would find your way to him, as you always did. You had loved him since you were little kids, which felt like a thousand years, and you would love him for thousand more.

If he weren't alive, you would feel it in your heart. The everburning light would go out, leaving your heart cold, alone and miserable. Your heart would guide you to him. You had to save him.

A Grisha kept him alive, feeling his love for you, feeling your love for him. She had to keep him alive for you. She hated those soldiers who brought Grishas to "justice" but she could feel Matthias was different - he actually had a heart. He cared, he cared about her too, not in a way he cared about you but Nina would make you find each other.

Maybe Matthias would let her go too if she did. He acted like he didn't trust her, and he didn't, at least not partly. He had been taught that Grishas were seducers and were just waiting for a moment to strike, but why would he keep her alive if he didn't trust her?

So the two kept going, and Matthias thought about your eyes, lips, your whole face. Tried to remember that he had a reason to keep going, to trust this Grisha. He wanted to see you again, and your hearts would lead each other together again.
