Joey carefully sat up more, Abigail added another pillow to support her wing.
The nurse opened the door and Johnny mumbled a small thanks, walking across the room to Joey's bed. Her Aunt and the nurse shared a look.
"We'll leave you two alone for a moment," They quietly left the room and sat out in the hospital hallway.
Johnny awkwardly cleared his throat, standing at the end of her bed, eyes down.
"How's your arm?" Joey broke the silence, unable to bear it a moment longer.
"It's alright, very sore and itchy, but I'll be okay," He held up his arm, it had a white cast from his fingers down to his elbow, being held to his chest by a sling. "I came to ask how you're doing, are you alright?"
Joey's eyebrows raised, she almost chuckled. She expected him to not care.
"Um, well my backs killing me, my wings gonna be in a cast for a while, so no flying to class anymore," More silence filled the room, it seemed like Johnny wished to say more but didn't know how.
"Why did-" His mouth opened and closed several times, trying to figure out how to phrase his question. "Why did you save me?"
"What do you mean?"
"I've been a jerk to you and yet you helped me out, why?"
"Just 'cause I don't like you doesn't mean I want you to die," He gave a strange chuckle at her words, awkwardly looking at the floor again.
"I'm pretty sure that's the nicest thing you've said to me," She gave a forced laugh.
"I take it back now,"
"Nope, already said it, it's in records," They both chuckled softly, Johnny took a step forward, coming to stand closer at her side.
"Listen, I was..." He started but corrected himself. "I had a certain opinion about you when we first met, but seeing how good you did in your Scare final, and how you saved my life, I've decided to apologize for my actions."
"Ok, go on," Joey nodded.
"That was the apology,"
"No it wasn't, you didn't even say "sorry"' Joey scoffed, crossing her arms.
"Ok, fine. I'm sorry I was a jerk to you," Despite the fact that he didn't make eye contact while saying it, it seemed genuine.
"Have you talked to Javier at all?" Joey asked after a minute.
"Yes, he called, I told him what happened and that you and I were OK. Don't be mad but he did let out a bigger sigh of relief when he heard I was okay,"
"Can we make a deal?" Johnny raised a brow. "For Javi's sake, of course,"
"Of course, what is it?"
"Can we please be civil?" Joey didn't mean to sound pleading but her pain meds were wearing off and her wing hurt. "I don't want to fight with you, or glare at each other from down the hall. I don't want to be best friends with you, but civil enough to be in the same room to hangout with Javi."
Johnny was taken aback by her statement. It made sense, for Javi's sake for them to be civil, but the thought that she didn't want to be friends with him hurt in a strange way. He nodded.
"Yeah, we can be civil, and don't worry. You are not even in the same league to even date me, let alone be friends with me,"
"Woah, woah, woah, no one said anything about dating, that's not happening,"
