The next 3 months passed by rather quickly. Joey mostly spent it with her nose in her textbooks, preparing for the exam. She had to prove she belonged in the school.
One afternoon her mother called, she sat on her desk stool, spinning back and forth.
"How's my little spider?" Her mother asked, Joey could gear footsteps and cluttering, she assumed her mother was walking around the house.
"I'm good, classes have been going great. I have my big Scare final next week,"
"Oh well I hope you've been studying,"
"I have mom, both alone and with some friends,"
"I'm glad to hear you've finally met new people. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Javi, but you need more friends in your life sweetheart," Joey stopped spinning, staring out her window. Seeing all the students laughing and kicking around a soccer ball.
"Oh, how's Abigail?" Joey sighed, resuming her spinning and glancing down at the floor.
"She's good, she's very excited for my final cause I agreed to let her use me as a demonstration,"
"That's Abigail," Her mother gave a soft laugh. Joey heard the sound of glass clicking together, her mother must have been doing the dishes. Something she always did when she was nervous.
"Everything alright mom?" Her mother sighed.
"I just hope you do well in the exam, your father and I want you to continue in the Scaring program,"
"I know mom, and I will."
"Alright, well I have things to do, it was nice talking sweetheart, call me after the final ok?"
"Ok, mom, bye. I love you,"
"Love you too, spider," Her mother hung up the phone, Joey tossed it onto her bed with a sigh. She knew she was going to do well on the final, but the pressure still remained.
"Three more days," she mumbled looking at her Callender, it was Friday and the exam was on Monday.
After finishing her studying for the night, Joey went for a late night walk around campus. She had her new Greek Council sweatshirt on.
Passing the scaring school, Joey glanced up at the large building. Turning around she bumped into another monster.
"Hey! Watch where you're walking, would ya?" A gruff voice said,
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there,"
"Yeah, no kidding," He was a tall purple lizard looking monster with several sets of arms and a permanent look of disgust on his face.
He angrily stomped by her, Joey rolled her eyes, what was his problem? She thought.
"Hey! Joey!" Glanicng back up at the scaring school she saw Janelle walking down the steps towards her.
"Hey, Elle, what're you doing here?"
"Some extra studying, tomorrow's a pretty big day," Reaching the bottom of the stairs they both walked back to their dorm. "I even heard some students talking about how Hardscrabble is gonna give a presentation type thing,"
"Oh really?" Joey couldn't help the smile on her face.
"Yeah, no one knows who it is though, could you imagine being the monster Hardscrabble picks to be a demonstration? That must be one scary monster," Janelle shook her head, glancing at the ground instead of Joey, who had a large smirk on her face.
They reached their dorms, turned off the lights and layed in a comfortable silence. Janelle rolled onto her side facing Joey, voice low.
"Are you...nervous for the exam?" Joey opened her eyes, glancing at Janelle. She propped herself up on her elbows, adjusting her wings under the blanket.
