Chapter 13: The Favor

"You WHAT?!" Joey's jaw dropped as she stared at him from across the table.

"Ok, just listen, the JOX's popularity has grown since last year and in order to build the ROR's back up, we have to win this year's Scare Games,"

"And how does that involve me?" Joey asked, rubbing her temples. Johnny's eyes cast down onto the picnic table.

"Big Red and the others seem to think that I'm "lame" because you saved me and hate each other, so if I prove him wrong by saying we're dating..." He trailed off, motioning her to finish his statement.

"It would boost your reputation in their minds," Joey sighed.

"Will you do it?"

"Do you realize how crazy you sound right now? I don't want to be friends with you, much less fake date you, and why me? Of all the girls on campus why me?" Joey crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for a response. Johnny wasn't expecting this question and went quiet. Joey gasped, her anger flaring. "You're using me because I'm Hardscrabbles niece, I knew you were nothing but a piece of-"

"That's not what's happening, Joey," Johnny held up his hands to stop her yelling. "You're the only one who could pull this off in a way that won't be obvious, it had nothing to do with Hardscrabble. Everyone heard about your score final results, our roars are almost compatible,"

"This is a roar thing then, not a family thing?" She asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yes," He nodded confidently.

"Why should I help you?"

He slowly pushed the brown paper bag towards her. She opened it to find some bagels and cream cheese.

"You're trying to bribe me with bagels and coffee?" Joey gave a forced laugh, even if she took a bite out the Bagel.

"And whatever else you want, I just need your help with this, please," He interlocked his fingers the best he could with his cast on.

"Alright, you have to get me coffee and a bagels every morning before class,"

"Done, we'll I'm-"

"I'm not finished," Joey interrupted him, leaning forward on her elbows. "Along with the coffee and bagels you have to walk me to and from my classes," Johnny nodded along, waiting for something embarrassing. "And I get to wear one of your sweaters,"

"Absolutely not," He interjected, holding up his hands. Joey took another bite of her Bagel, smirking.

"Then no deal, have fun with Big Red at your party," Joey stacked all her textbooks and prepared to leave. Johnny gently grabbed her wrist.

"Wait, wait," She sat back down after he let her hand go. "Alright I'll bring you the food and walk you to class and...I'll let you borrow one of my jackets," Joey smirked at how defeated he sounded.

"Alright, and what's your side of the bargain? What am I supposed to do?"

"Go to my parties, we have to plan obvious "dates" and hangouts, and you'll cheer me on throughout the Scare Games,"

"Wait, hold on," Joey finished her Bagel and took a sip of her coffee. "You want to fake date throughout the whole of the Scare Games? Thats like 3 or 4 months, I thought we were talking like a week or 2,"

"It'll go by quick, alright, don't worry about it. Do we have a deal?" Johnny extended his hand out towards her.

"And what about the other ROR's will they know?"

"No, Chet and Chip can be quite the gossips when they wanna be, it has to say between us,"

"I can't lie to Javi-"

"Sure you can, make up some fake stories about how great I am, he'll believe ya," Johnny said confidently.

"No I mean I literally can't, he can tell when I'm lying,"

"Then we'll tell him and only him, he can keep a secret unlike the others. Now will you please shake my hand, it's getting tired."

Joey rolled her eyes, and shook his hand, he gave his classic smirk before standing up from the table.

"Well I have a class I need to get to, so nice chat, we will continue this on Friday night,"

"Why Friday?"

"For the party,"

"I really have to go to that?" Joey groaned at his chuckle. He nodded, she sighed and nodded back.

"Fine,"

"See you Friday," He said before waving and turning towards the administration's office.

He passed the Dean's Office and went to the Greek Councils office. Claire Wheeler was organizing some paperwork.

Johnny gently knocked on the door, Claire looked up with an unamused face.

"Here to sign up for the Scare games?" They asked unimpressed. Johnny nodded clapping his hands together.

"Yes, Ma'am," She groaned, filing through stuff on the table she was at before handing him a clipboard with a blue pen.

"Remember to sign all team members names, not just your own," She said before continuing to sort papers.

Johnny signed, all the names on the small blanks.

Johnny paused right above the last line, he inhaled sharply and signed.

Joey walked back to her dorm with a headache. How did this happen? She wanted nothing to do with this guy and now she had to fake date him.

Taking out her keys she unlocked the door, seeing Janelle hunched over her desk studying. She nodded towards Joey but didn't look up from the book.

"Interesting book?" Joey mused, taking off her jacket and hanging it on her bed frame.

"Mmm-hmmfp," She mumbled back, Joey glanced up at her calender above her desk. Written on a sticky note was the words "big test tomorrow. STUDY,"

Joey smiled softly and layed down, on her stomach on her bed and closed her eyes. She had to get rid of this headache.

About 30 minutes later, Joey heard Janelle get up from her stool and rummage through her bag before the door opened and closed.

Joey poked her eyes open, everything had been put away. She sat up and found Janelles text book. She smiled to herself.

Janelle woke up early the next morning for her test, she walked quickly through campus, pulling at her sweater before going into the classroom.

She sat down at her desk as others filled in. She took out her textbook for one last quick study run through.

She opened the book and found a small sticky notes attached to the page.
