Joey's phone buzzed in her pocket the Monday after the Scare Games kickoff. She ignored it until the end of class. Sitting out on a picnic bench she read it.
Dummy: Hey, we got our Scare card for the first event. Come by after class so we can open it.
Joey packed up her things and walked towards frat row. She was wearing Johnnys sweater, 1 because she was now a ROR and was told she had to "represent" the team. And 2, because it was very soft.
The weather kept getting colder and colder, her cast kept her wing warm. It was the only good thing it did.
She reached the front door and raised her fist to knock. The door flew open with Chet staring at her with a squinted eye.
"Where have you been? We've been waiting for you to open the letter!" Chet said, walking towards the main hall, leaving the door open for her.
She closed it and followed close behind him. The couches had been moved back into the room and the others were seated around the coffee table.
There in the center of the table was a small black envelope with ROR printed in red on it.
"Have you guys just been staring at it since it got here?" Joey asked, the others looked up at her.
"You don't get to complain, 'cause you weren't here!" Chet said again, he seemed upset, but how a toddler would be upset about not getting dessert.
"I was in class, Chet," He lowered his head, he cleared his throat and motioned for Johnny to say something.
"Anyway, now that we're all here," He reached forward and took the envelope.
Joey sat down next to him on the sofa, leaning in to read the card, as the others were doing.
Johnny used his nails to rip the top before pulling out the card and opening it.
"Although you might not Scare as a team, being alone is not what it seems,"
Johnny read, glancing up at the others. Everyone took a moment to think about what the card meant.
"Are they going to have us split up?" Chip asked after a moment, Javi shook his head, leaning back on the couch.
"No, it seems like this is going to be separate group activities, like we're all working together but not all six of us," Javi said, interlocking his fingers.
"Definitely something team building where we'll need everyone together," Chet added, the others nodded.
Joey remained silent, rubbing her hands together.
"What do you think, Joey?" Chip asked after a moment, all five of them glanced over at her.
"Hey, wait a minute," Chet said before she could answer. "You were on Greek Council, so you know what the challenges are!" He said excitedly.
"I don't know how they're going to set them up though, we went over at least ten to fifteen ideas, Brock and Claire are the ones who take the ideas to the administrator," Joey said defensively, putting her arms up.
"Do you have any idea about this one?" Johnny asked quietly, he handed the card to her. She flipped it in her hands, reading the clue again.
"I think it's a tag team race," The guys leaned in, "They'll split up the team into three separate groups and we all have to work together to finish, but I have no idea what the groups will do," She said, handing the card back to Johnny.
He nodded, looking at the others.
"Well then, what are we waiting for ROR's? Let's go win us the Scare Games!" He stood, holding his hand out, the others stood, putting their hands over his.
