Chapter 2: First Day

Joey's alarm blared through the small room, she groaned, opening her eyes and shutting off her phone. Peering out the window she saw the sun rising behind the Scare school.

"Good morning, sleepy head." Janelle spoke from the other side of the room. She was already dressed and ready for the day, she had a small wash cloth and was polishing her horns.

"Morning," Joey rolled onto her back and slowly sat up, rubbing her scaled face in her small hands. Looking at the time, 7:15, she realized she didn't leave enough time to shower before class.

She stood up from her bed and changed into a large green jacket to block out the cold and headed to the bathroom to brush her teeth.

When she got back to her room, Janelle was sitting cross-legged on the bed smiling at her phone.

"Is that your boyfriend?" Joey chuckled, seeing her cheeks darkening.

"Maybe," she giggled back before putting her phone down. "He was just wishing me a good first day of class. Speaking of which do you wanna head over there now so we can get good seats?"

"Yeah just let me get my books first,"

"Ok, I'm gonna head down to the common room real quick and grab a snack," grabbing her books and keys she quietly left the room. Joey picked up her scaring text book and notebook, when her phone went off.

It was a text from Javi.

Javier: I don't have any classes before 11, so I can meet you after yours is done. You have scaring 101 this morning right?

Joey: Yes, I do. It ends at 8, I'll see you outside the building.

Javier: Ok, see ya.

Joey met up with Janelle on the front steps of the dorm and started walking towards the building.

It was a huge building with a mint green domed roof and two large golden statues out front. As they passed the girls tapped the claw on the right statue, apparently it was a sign of luck.

The classroom was large and dark, with several students already piling in. Joey and Janelle sat in the second row, whispering to themselves.

"Do you have another class after this?"

"Yeah, Scream energy tactics, what about you?" Janelle was rolling her pencil between her long nails, peering over the new students coming into the room.

"I'm meeting my friend Javi outside the building, he promised me a tour of the campus." Janelle tried to hold back a smile.

"Now is this a friend friend or a friend?" Joey playfully hit her shoulder, suppressing a laugh.

"Just a friend, we've been friends since high school, we used to live in the same neighborhood." Janelle nodded, obviously wanting to tease her but choosing against it.

"Uh, excuse us, ladies?" A tall monster with 2 heads and a green sweater tapped on Janelle's shoulder. "Is that seat taken? There aren't many others left?"

"Oh sure!" The girls moved so the monster could squeeze through, sitting on Joey's right side. "I'm Joey, by the way."

"I'm Terry with a 'y'" the taller head said, "and I'm Terri with an 'I'" the smaller head piped in, they shook hands when the professor stepped forward.

"Good morning, class. I am professor Knight, welcome to Scaring 101. I encourage you all to not take this class lightly and truly let your scary side out. Dean Hardscrabble is with us this morning to greet you all and explain the course." He looked back to a shadowy corner where a large figure appeared.
