the day with Vyn had been eventful, but Y/ns day wasn't over with.

Artem had texted her during the ending portions of the meeting, he needed her to attend a court hearing for one of his 'clients'. one of the opposing families had managed to pull up a lawsuit case and Y/n needed to go with Artem to help him prep.

Vyn and her sat in the car, an awkward silence between the two.

"so where did you learn that?" Vyn asked.

she knew the question was coming. one way or another. and she was sure that she needed to lie about the answer. no family enjoys recruiting from another family. she figured this was no acception.

"i had a friend that was involved in all this. growing up where i did, a lot of the kids my age were apart of a family. my mother wanted a different life for me."

it was only partially a lie. actually, it technically wasn't a lie. she had been told those secrets from a friend, and her mother had wanted a different life for Y/n. but she had excluded the part where she had been one of the main runners for the family.

runners would transport different materials. drugs, money, weapons, you name it, she had peddled it through states and borders.

not only that, but she had even been an interrogator and debt collector. it wasn't her favorite, and she had only done it a few times but it made good money.

of course it all changed when she met him.

her body tensed at the thought, and thankfully Vyns voice brought her back.

"is that so? which family?"

before she could answer her phone rang out.

Artems contact came up, she glanced out the window to see him coming down the hill and waiting at the gate in his sleek black car.

y/n breathed with relief and shot Vyn a smile.

"we can talk later." he concluded.

there was something cold in his tone. he couldn't tell she was lying right? she was a great liar. that's why she was such a great peddler. she could keep her cool in almost any situation. well, that was before.

"yeah sure, ill see you later Mr. Richter."

as y/n got out, her wrist was gently caught by VYn. she turned and looked ot see him leaning over. a slightly earnest look in his golden eyes. one she hadn't seen before.

"i would quite like that. and if you'd like, please call me Vyn." he said.

his grip was a firm, his eyes held a little warmth in them. y/ns heart was picking up speed. was it his handsome face? or the fact she felt as if he was flirting a little?

stay on task! y/n knew he was most definitely not the man he projected. she wouldn't fall for someone like him again.

"alright, Vyn."

she gave him a smile and his eyes sparkled slightly. he leaned over and pressed his lips to the inside of her wrist, sending a pleasant ripple throughout her body. her cheeks began to heat up as his cool lips and fingers released her hand.

"fairwell." he said softly.

she waved wordlessly and walked, dazed, to Artems car.

she slid between the gap in the fencing and went to open the car door.

"allow me."

Artems warm voice sounded from behind her, making her jump. in her daze she hadnt realized he had stepped out of the car and walked behind her. his hand touched her hip gently, and his other hand pushed her hand out of the way.
