the morning light filtered in through the cracks in the wood. Y/n was woken up by the sound of birds chirping, and of course, light in her eyes
she had warmed up with the sun, and now was slightly sweaty. but it was more comfortable than the miserable cold she had just expeirienced.
her body was sore, she managed to climb out of the tree, and sat up on her knees. the ground was wet with dew, and birds flew around above her.
she blinked groggily. the light was so bright.
she was in the middle of a very small clearing. just a few feet wide, and a few feet long. there was a thicket of bushed to one side, covered in berries, and the other side was full of dead trees. her stomach was growling, but she didnt trust anything that grew in this forest.
she ignored her hunger and stood up, her joints popping loudly. animals scurried out of bushes and into the underbrush. the sun helped to warm her aching body, and made her a little invoigorated.
she didnt know where to go.
in her back pocket she felt around for her phone. the time was 9am, and she was at 5% battery. no internet bars, no connection.
was this really how she was going to die?
she tucked the phone back in her pocket, and took one last look around. she lingered on the berry bushes for one moment, but saw no animals going to peck at them. she would have to find something else to eat.
there was dirty all over her. her injured shoulder throbbed with pain as she found the path she had walked last night, and started on it.
there wasnt much to look at. the trees were prepping for winter. most of their leaved had fallen onto the ground so the blue sky was visible. if it was any other day, in any other sitution, y/n wouldnt mind having to walk through this.
she listened once mroefor any signs of highways. the animals that ran about werent big enough to scare her, luckily.
once she got out though, she could go straight to the police station. no way artem or vyn or marius would be able to find her in this place. once she got to the police, she would be safe. and this would all be like a bad nightmare.
the idea gave her energy.
she could get her own house again. she could go into witness protection, and move so far away that they would never be able to find her. she would get a new job, in a place where no one knew her, or what she had been through. she would be able to start fresh.
up ahead she could hear movement.
which set her on edge.
it was much louder than the animals that had been moving around in the leaves. was it a bear? or maybe a hobo looking for something to eat?
she moved away from the trail quietly, her heart pounding in her chest.
she strained her ears, and soon heard faint voices.
" just veered off the path, whered she go?"
"dunno, maybe got spooked."
a jumbled, loud static hissed through the trees.
"-902 come in unit 902. Detective M has called back search parties, i repeat, detective M has called off search parties."
Y/ns heart leapt into the air.
"oh come on, it vanished again."
"yeah theres no internet, its amazing we managed to track her this far. come on though, shes probably frozen to death somewhere."
