chapter thirty six

Later, Mary reluctantly agrees to spy on Sarah's and Hottie's conversation with Ethan and Benny.

"It must get boring working at a museum all day." Sarah says.

"Yes," Hottie replies, taking her hands in his, "But I would gladly cross the world over again to be next to you."

Sarah's heart flutters, sure they may be moving a bit fast and he talked like a bad actor in a Shakespeare play, but it was the first time she was ever treated nicely by a guy. Lord knows the universe owed her that.

"Can I see you tonight?" Hottie asks.

"Okay," she smiles, but then it fades, "Oh, but I might have to babysit."

"Sit? On a baby? That's most strange," he questions, "But no matter, if we may do it together, you and I shall outshine the stars." He flashes her a charming smile, then slowly lets her hands go and walks away, leaving Sarah in pure bliss.

As she turns, the other three quickly put down their spy listening gear. "Hey guys." She says. "Uh, hey, Sarah. How's it goin?" Mary asks, flashing a fake smile. Benny nudges her gently, she was terrible at lying.

"Hottie is so sweet, we're really hitting it off." Sarah sighs.

Benny and Mary try to hide their smiles as they look at Ethan, who was attempting to hide his jealousy. "Really? I-I didn't notice."

Sarah sighs, "I'm just afraid to tell him I'm a vampire. I mean, who wants to date some freaky undead creature?"

Benny couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, but then he coughs to hide it when Mary nudges him. "You know, I think he'd be cool with that." He says.

"Really?" Sarah beams, "Thanks Benny!" She squeezes him tightly with her abnormal strength, making him groan in pain. "See ya in class." She says, then walks off with the biggest smile that Mary has ever seen on her face.

"Okay, we need to get Prince Pyramid back to the museum before Sarah gets too attached." Ethan states.

Mary and Benny look at him with their eyebrows raised, "Hm?"

"For her sake!"

"You mean for your sake."

"You guys gonna help me or not?" Ethan scoffs.

"Okay, okay." Benny replies. Mary shrugs, "I don't know, Ethan. Sarah is my best friend, if she's happy then I would be a crappy best friend to take that away from her."

"But she's not safe, we don't know his intentions. He could be dangerous." Ethan replies.

"Well unless you can prove that he is, I don't want any part in it." Mary states.

"Please, Mary?" Benny begs, "I don't wanna help him without you."

"I'm sorry, Benny, but it's a no from me. You guys are on your own now." Mary leans up to kiss his cheek goodbye and walks away.

Benny sighs at Ethan, "Great, now you're making me seem like a jerk to my girlfriend. Thanks."

"I'm sorry but we need to protect Sarah, she would do the same for us if she thought we were in danger. Now, come on, tell me ya got something." Ethan replies.

"Fine, I did find this mummifying/demummifying spell, but I have to test it first. For all I know it could turn him into someone's mom." Benny says.

Ethan groans, "Great, where are we gonna find another mummy to test it on?"

"Check it out!" Rory shouts as he appears in front of them. He holds out what looks like something in the shape of a cat wrapped in soiled rags. "Can I mummy or what?"
