Her rapid heartbeat was the only thing tethering her to the room she was standing in. The room was spinning and everything felt distant to her. From the people standing around her, to the sounds that should have been consuming her ears. It was as if she wasn't truly there. With her silence, came confusion. Her fellow werewolves became worried for their new Alpha as she kept her focus on the floor, her chest heaving up and down.
"Um... Alex?" a voice became more prominent to her. But it was as if she was underwater, listening in to someone who was calling to her from above. "Are you okay?" the voice asked her, but she didn't respond.
"Training is over, we'll pick this up another day," she announced to the room, her voice weak and unsure.
Alexandria didn't stay long to hear their questions as she quickly hurried out of the gym, purposefully going the opposite direction she saw Jed limp off to.
"Wait, Alex!" Rafael called out from behind her.
She turned around to see the werewolf jogging towards her. His bag slung over his shoulder with her own belongings in his hand. She was so focused on leaving, that she had forgotten her things in the gym.
As he finally caught up to her, he handed her back her bag to which she muttered a small thanks to him.
"That was amazing! You really put him in his place back there," he smiled reassuringly, but even Alexandria could tell he had different motives.
Her expression remained blank as she waited for him to continue and get to his point. Her eyes darting to his with no verbal response. It was then that Rafael became tense under her stare and his smile faltered. Deciding it was a good idea to not beat around the bush and get his backside beat like Jed's.
He readjusted his posture and let out an anxious breath. "I've got the vampires and the witches," he started and the new Alpha already knew where this was going. "But I need one more faction to make sure. Be nice to know I can count on my own pack. With Jed as Alpha, there was no way he would vote for Landon to stay. But with you... I'm hoping you can be more understanding," he pleaded to the girl.
Her body language nor facial expression gave any indication of an answer to Rafael, which made him worry.
A panic settled in the depths of Alexandria's core but she was wise to not let it show. Letting out steady, slow breaths to calm herself. She was presented with a situation which presented an immense amount of uncertainty on her. With a mind clearer than before, she was able to process what she had done and the consequences that followed. In challenging the Alpha, she became the Alpha herself. An outcome she didn't think through and one she didn't prepare for.
"I can't talk about this right now, Rafael. I'm sorry," she responded to him in a monotonous tone and turned on her heel to leave to somewhere unknown to Rafael.
