When Hope was shoved out of her astral projection, she woke from her state with a gasp and found herself back in her room. For a moment, Hope sat still in the middle of the circle of candles she had laid out previously to slowly reorient herself. But before she could even process what she had seen, Kai had entered the room.
"How'd all that go?" he questioned as he inspected the many random objects on the table belonging to Alyssa.
Hope whipped around to see 'Joshua' but from the information given to her by Josie and Alaric, she knew he was a lot more dangerous than she initially thought.
Hope unconsciously gripped her own leg as she cautiously looked at Kai. "It didn't. I couldn't reach them," she lied as she shut her book.
"Oh," Kai responded dryly as he moved around the room.
Kai began scanning the area as Hope pushed herself to stand. The girl brushed off the imaginary dust on her skirt as she found herself fiddling with her hands. As Kai wandered around the room, Hope's heart picked up but she clenched her fists at her sides and took deep breaths to calm herself.
"Did you need something?" Hope asked as she noticed that Kai seemed to be looking for something specific. His eyes examined different parts of the room but never lingered longer than a few moments.
Kai initially ignored her as he started to take deep whiffs around Alyssa's side of the room. The mere action weirded Hope out, but she stayed silent as he continued on.
"It's not you... it's not me," Kai soon clarified as he inched closer to the end of Alyssa's bed.
"Excuse me?" the girl uttered quietly.
"No," he mumbled to himself but after he moved closer to Alyssa's blue, stuffed elephant, he smiled to himself. "Yes, there it is," Kai said triumphantly as he picked up the stuffed animal.
Hope wanted to make a comment but bit her tongue as Kai strolled over to her. "Why is it always stuffed animals? It's the weirdest thing," Kai commented but Hope just awkwardly smiled.
But her eyes widened as Kai ripped the stuffed toy's head off to reveal another ascendant hidden inside. An ascendant which was in perfectly good condition unlike the other.
"Oh, my– how did you know?" Hope quietly gasped, her eyes never leaving the ascendant.
Kai carelessly threw the head behind him as he took the ascendant out. "Oh, Alyssa Chang just needed a, uh... compassionate ear to bend," he spoke softly with a small smile. "Hey, I'm sorry to uh, stick my nose in, but she really doesn't like you people," Kia commented as he put on his fake glasses. "Anywho... now all you need is something that has the equivalent power of a celestial event. Do you have any ideas?" he asked as he looked at the tribrid expectantly. He bit back a smile as he placed a finger over his lips.
