A few days passed since the twins' birthday and Alexandria was finally free of her academic responsibilities for a moment. There was a moment of calm and Alexandria wanted to take advantage of that. Alexandria wanted nothing more than to take a break and gain back some sense of normal. And that was exactly what she planned to do when she had driven down to Mystic Falls High. Not for another monster problem, but to pick up her brother after he had finished school so the two could hang out like they used to.
Driving into the parking lot, she parked a little further away from the high school students hoping to not draw any unwanted attention. Although some students had noticed her and recognised her from the Salvatore School. She could see the strange stares from the teenagers lingering in the parking lot.
Taking out her phone from her back pocket, she messaged her brother to let him know that she arrived. She waited in the car, listening to the radio softly in the background as her mind started to drift off. She glanced at the features of the car that had gone into her possession after her dad died. Well, when he was killed.
Her dad was a car mechanic, following in the footsteps of his own father before him. It was his passion and he managed to get a hold of an old pickup truck. It was no luxury car, but it served its purpose. Alexandria's dad had managed to get the car off a friend for a reasonable price, but a lot of its parts were outdated and unsalvageable. He spent months looking for new parts and worked on restoring it any time he was free.
Alexandria remembered the smile on his face when he had picked her up from school one day with the newly restored pickup truck. He was so proud despite its banged up appearance. It was his first project. After he had died, she felt guilty for taking the car. Even though they shared the vehicle and he had no problem with her using it, she couldn't help but feel that guilt gnaw at her insides.
But now, the car was running on its last life. Without her dad around to fix the truck himself, she knew that she would have to start saving up for a new car for her own.
"Alex?" a voice was heard from outside the car followed by a soft knocking on the passenger window.
She sharply inhaled and forced a smile when she saw the blonde haired teenager waiting outside. Unlocking the door, he quickly got inside and chucked his bag into the back seat after putting on his seatbelt.
"What's with you?" Lukas asked in a deadpan voice.
Alexandria only shoved him by the shoulder softly before putting the car back into drive. The siblings couldn't ignore the stares they received when they left the parking lot of the school.
~ * ~
Alexandria had missed her brother and the sense of normality that came with him. The siblings weren't even that far apart, it was only now that they had no longer lived together. But Alexandria's life had been anything but normal and it felt as though she had no spare time to herself.
