Marshall POV
Sundays in football season for me used to always consist of popping a bunch of pills, then drinking with a gang of other drunk rowdy guys. I'd usually make numerous ill-informed bets on the games throughout the day then lose all my money or if I'd win, I'd use all my earnings to purchase more drugs. If my team lost, I would get high. I used the pills to erase my sorrows. Either way, I was getting fucked up. It was a trigger for me.
Today was the first game of the season and I was doing things different. I would be watching the Lions play the Cowboys all by my lonesome. I picked up lots of game day snacks along with the list of foods that Ramona had given me this morning. She had also requested her belongings from her place. It was basically just clothes and supplies for painting. I planned on picking up the last of her things from her apartment the following day before turning in her key and paying the bill. Ramona wasn't going to be in that living situation ever again.
I put some fresh fruit in a bowl and made a plate of cold cuts to place on a tray and carry up to Ramona's room. When I entered, she was on the laptop and looked cute with her hair in a ponytail and wearing a Cowboys jersey.
"You're a Dallas fan?!"
"Fanatic!" Ramona dug into the plate of food that I handed her.
I was so excited when she said but kept my cool as I lightly asked, "Yo, you wanna watch the game with me today? I'll help you hobble downstairs."
We both laughed a little, "A change of scenery would be nice."
"Ok. We got two hours still. I'll come get you when it's time."
"Sounds good."
"$200 says The Lions kick the Cowboys ass!"
"Marshall! I don't have $200!"
"Oh, right sorry." I joked. "Whoever wins owes the other one a kiss!"
I smiled to myself as I went downstairs to pick up random hoodies laying around the living room and did the dirty dishes piled in the sink. I didn't know why I was feeling nervous, I wanted to make a good impression on Ramona. I still needed to be cautious around this girl because I didn't know what she was capable of, but I wanted to take the time to get to know my baby mama better. I took a moment to scribble down a thought before I proceeded with cleaning up.
I can forgive you, but I want to kill you
Half an hour before the game, I ran upstairs to get Ramona. She looked pretty. She had a bit of makeup on and small, dangly earrings. She didn't look as she had when I first met her, but she had a way about her.
I placed one arm around Moe's pregnant belly and the other over her shoulders as I led her down the steps. She leaned her head into my neck as we walked downstairs together, and her hair smelled amazing. I was excited to hang out with Ramona. We have a lot more in common than I thought and maybe today could bring us closer together.
"Here, I made a bed for you on the couch."
I helped her to raise her feet up to sprawl out and placed a pillow under her head.
I awkwardly walked out to the kitchen and yelled over my shoulder, "You hungry again?"
"No. Hurry up! They're about to kick off!"
I rushed back and lifted Ramona's legs to drape them over my own as the Cowboys scored almost immediately.
"Whoo! Right out the gate! Take that Jim Schwartz!" (head coach of The Lions in 2009) Ramona hooted.
"Aww, C'mon! You guys suck!" I yelled as the football flew over the goalpost for the extra point.
Ramona and I spent the afternoon hooting and hollering at our teams as The Cowboys led the entire game. At half-time, we agreed on ordering a pizza and I took this opportunity to ask Ramona about her love of football.
"So, Moe, why the Cowboys? If you're from Detroit, why don't you root for the Lions?"
She hid her eyes in embarrassment, "It's because of Deion Sanders. I thought he was so cool when I was a teenager. And I've been following football ever since."
I laughed at this side of her. The more I find out about Ramona, the more I like her. She's way better than Liz.
After we devoured our pizza and finished watching Dallas kick Detroit's ass in football, I asked Ramona if she wanted to watch a movie since she seemed so comfortable on the couch. We chilled and kicked back for a while until Moe sat up and put her hand on her belly.
"You aight?" I gave her my full attention. "What's wrong?"
"I think I felt a little kick! Here!" She placed my hand on her stomach.
"I don't feel anything."
"Just wait a second!" Ramona was excited, but I didn't feel any signs of a little human moving around in there.
I took my hand away when nothing was happening for a few minutes, "Probably just gas." I laughed at her.
"Shut up!" She playfully hit my shoulder and laid back for a second. "No! There it was again!"
"Dammit! I missed it again! Here..." I sat behind Moe to hold her with my hands on her belly so I wouldn't miss anymore baby movement. I nuzzled my nose into her neck and we both became intensely quiet as if our voices would interrupt the baby wanting to move.
"Feel it?!" Ramona laughed gleefully when there was a flutter of life beneath our fingertips.
I smiled back when I felt it, "I've never seen you smile like that."
"What do mean? I smile all the time!" She rolled her eyes at me.
"Not like that you don't." I said in almost a whisper causing Ramona to turn and stare in my eyes, "I believe I owe you a kiss."
I leaned in as our lips touched slowly yet forcefully, three kisses. It wasn't much, but it was enough to make me hold her tighter and pretend that this could be our life.
