Ramona POV
Marshall and I had remained close since the night of his birthday. Sometimes he would stay in my room at night and sleep next to me, but I was now eight months pregnant and as big as a house! We watched football together in bed and he still made sure that I had everything I needed. Marshall and I had grown as close as two strangers having a baby together could be.
We both agreed on a jungle theme for the nursery and Marshall trusted me to design all the plans. I even made some paintings of baby animals to decorate, and Marshall took care of all the furniture we would need for the room. We spent a Saturday painting the entire baby's room in preparation.
"Bbrrrr..." I shivered. "It's cold in here with all these windows open."
"We have to leave them open while we're painting baby. I don't want you getting sick from the fumes."
"It says on here Non-Toxic. And besides, I'm around paint all the time." I told Marshall as I set down the paint can.
"I don't care. I ain't taking any chances." Marshall stood back and examined the mural I had just finished on the wall of a giraffe staring back at him. "How did you become such an amazing artist Moe?"
"I don't know. It's just something I've always been good at."
"You should do something with it. Become a fashion designer or something."
"I went to college for graphic design but didn't finish. I have one more year to go."
"Think you might ever go back?"
"Oh yes. I want to, it's one of my dreams." I had been sitting with my legs crossed on the floor and reached for Marshall to help pull me up. "I designed the menu cover and the logo for that Indian restaurant downtown, Midnight Temple. And this isn't the first mural I've painted. I had a lady pay me $300 to paint a castle and a princess in her daughter's bedroom, so that was a paid gig."
"Why don't you advertise? Do you have a portfolio?"
I got a bit bashful, "I'm not always thrilled to share my work, Marshall. My art is more just for me. Something I enjoy by myself."
"You're being selfish Moe. Your work is beautiful. You should share it with the world."
Marshall could tell it was uncomfortable, so he changed the subject.
"Ya know Christmas will be here before you know it. How do you usually celebrate?" He draped his arms around my neck with my pregnant belly between us.
"I usually go to see a movie." I answered lightly.
"A movie? By yourself?"
A nodded my embarrassed head.
"Moe, that's terrible. Even if you don't have any family, don't you have any friends to spend the holiday with?"
"If you haven't noticed, I'm socially awkward Marshall."
"Perfect! I'm socially awkward too!" We both laughed and then he kissed me. "Don't worry. This year you're going to be with me and my family. Our family now." He rubbed his hand over my stomach.
Marshall POV
Ramona and I spent Christmas at home with the fam which turned into Hailie's birthday, and a mini baby shower for Moe. I made sure there were a lot of baby items under the tree, so we had everything we needed. Moe spent the holiday week in bed sleeping and she looked like she was about to pop. Her legs had swelled up and I rubbed cocoa butter on her every night. It was good for her to get as much rest as possible because soon we were going to be up all night with a screaming baby. This was an exciting time for me because having this baby was way different this time around than when Kim was pregnant with Hailie. It felt good to not be struggling financially.
The nursery was completed, and the car seat was strapped in the back of the Escalade. My daughters had arranged all our new blankets in the crib and folded all the onesies to place them in the baby's dresser. We must come up with a name for this little girl, so we don't keep saying "the baby".
Moe actually came downstairs for New Year's Eve as it was important for her to still get up and walk around for exercise and circulation. I made her a comfy place on the couch and lit the fireplace for a romantic ambiance. I had grown close to this girl; I was glad she was the woman to have my child.
"You got any New Year's resolutions?" Moe asked as she shoved some popcorn in her mouth.
"Oh, ya know. Keep staying clean, keep exercising, spend more time with my kids including a new baby girl." I patted her tummy. "Oh, and put out the new album!"
"The new album?!" Moe sounded excited.
"Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about that. It's about to be a busy year Moe. I'm going to start doing some interviews and promo again in the next couple months and I'll probably go on tour at the end of the year. This is the first album I've put out in almost five years. I guess the timing's kinda bad."
She flashed a bright smile, "We'll just take it as it comes."
I find this woman captivating yet baffling. When I first met Ramona or Liz, she seemed so take charge and independent. Now I'm realizing that she was lonely and scared the entire time and had a deep artistic talent that was fucking amazing. I couldn't wait for this baby! I couldn't wait to see how our future unfolds and watch Ramona become a mother.
Ramona POV
I answered with confidence, but I was crying inside because Marshall being back in the spotlight terrified me. Surely, he would start spending more time living his real life which I knew would include other women and have absolutely no room for me. I would enjoy this while it lasts.
"Oh Marshall, I have something else I want to talk to you about too."
"Yeah, what's that?"
"I have a name for the baby. I want to name her Rochelle after my best friend. My only friend."
Marshall thought for a moment then nodded his head in approval, "Rochelle. Roe and Moe!"
We both laughed at that for a minute, but then I became serious again, "I really want to name her that. Is that, ok? Do you have any objections?"
"Nah, I like it. This is your first baby. You can name her whatever you want."
At midnight, Marshall gave me the sweetest most sincere kiss and I forgot all about the fact that he was going to be gone a lot real soon. I cherished this time I spent alone with Marshall. Even if this never amounts to anything, my pregnancy has been the best nine months of my life.
