This Is How It's Supposed to Be!

Marshall POV

Ramona and I stayed in the hospital with baby Rochelle for six days. Besides the problem with her lungs, she was born with some other minor health issues. Our baby was born with a double ear infection and an enflamed tear duct. It was nothing that couldn't be treated, and she would be a perfectly healthy baby, but she needed special medical care in the meantime. Some alarm even went off in the middle of the night on the first night Rochelle was here. A team of doctors rushed in to help her and Moe didn't even awaken with all the commotion, and I never even told her. I'm sure she was exhausted and should have probably been in a real bed but chose to stay next to the baby.

The medical team took excellent care of Rochelle every day and Ramona slept in a chair right next to the baby for the first three days of her life. I had a tremendous feeling of pride seeing Moe care for our daughter like that right from the start. I could already tell she would be a fantastic mother. When Rochelle was breathing on her own, she was wheeled into Ramona's room so she could properly care for her and bond.

Ramona and I were finally given the green light that we could bring Rochelle home and my entire family gathered at the house for the baby's arrival.

"Oh, my goodness! She's so cute!"

Hailie had seen her sister in the hospital, but Rochelle was connected to all types of machines at that point. This was the first time Hailie had seen the baby happy and healthy in a pink monkey onesie and matching hat. Hailie held her baby sister tight to her chest and big tears flowed down her cheeks. I got choked up too just watching how much she already loved her little sister.

The family stayed for two or three hours but left to give Moe and I some space having a new baby in the house. It was now evening time and I was noticing we didn't have much to eat at the crib. Moe was upstairs in the nursery sitting in the rocking chair giving Rochelle a bottle. I peered in the room quietly watching Moe rock our daughter while she hummed You Are My Sunshine. It gave me butterflies.

"Babe," I whispered into the room to get her attention. "I gotta run out quick and grab some milk and Red Bulls and shit. You need anything?"

"Yeah. Would you mind stopping by Starbucks for a Grande Iced Mocha? I'm going to take a bubble bath once she goes to sleep."

Moe was so beautiful in a cute lavender sweatsuit and her hair down spilling over her shoulders. I was happy we were finally home and Moe could rest properly in her own bed.

"I gotchu baby." I smiled and leaned in to first kiss Ramona's lips, then kiss Rochelle's head.

This is how it's supposed to be!

I found myself wandering around the grocery store at night with my head under a hoodie. I wasn't recognized. Or at least nobody made a big deal about it. My phone lit up with Moe's number.

"What's up babe?" I answered.

"She pooped all over!" Moe yelled on the other end. "It went through her clothes, it's on the bed! I'm gonna have to strip the sheets over this!"

I laughed hard that I was lucky enough to not be there for this moment, "There's sheets in the closet down the hall next to my room. Just use whatever. They're all the same size."

"Ok. I'm filling up the baby bath right now. I don't know how this teeny, little person can make such a mess!"

I laughed again. Moe was so cute.

"I know you got this baby. I'll be home soon with your iced coffee."

I bought more shit than I was planning to, so I spent some extra time at the store. I figured me and Moe would just be hanging around the house for a while and cooking at home. It was too cold in Detroit to take a newborn baby out this time of year. It was over an hour until I arrived back at the crib.

I wandered through the dimly lit house and into Moe's room where our newborn daughter was fast asleep in her bassinet. I took a moment to gaze down at her and stroke her head. I smiled in awe for a minute before I opened the door to the bathroom and Ramona sat in the steamy tub as the water filled.

"Holy tits!"

"Marshall! God! You need to learn how to knock!" Moe covered herself for a moment, then smiled seemingly comfortable and took her arms down to reveal her naked body. "My milk came in. My boobs are now even bigger than usual."

"Well, they look fantastic." I drew in a breath through my teeth, took a seat next to her, and handed over her coffee. "One Starbucks for the new lil mama."

"Thank you, Marshall. You've been so wonderful through this whole thing."

"Of course. You and that little girl are my responsibility now."

"I appreciate everything you've done for me." Ramona stroked my hand resting on the side of the tub. "Rochelle drank her entire bottle, then took a nice poop and had a bath. She'll probably sleep for a while but leave the door open just in case."

I kissed Moe's head before I left her alone to relax, "Come get me when she wakes up. I'll take care of her tonight."
