"Hey, did you see this new video?" Jackson draped himself over your shoulders, basically hugging you from behind as you stared at the screen he held infront of your face. You shook your head no.

"What is it?"

"It's the student webpage! Look, that's Manny!" Jackson stifled a giggle. "He was high while trying to wrestle one of the Casketball players!"

You watched as Manny was rammed into a set of bleachers, bruising his head and busting his nose in the process. You choked back a laugh and waved the cellphone away with a grin on your face.

"No, I didn't see that, but I'm glad you showed it to me."

Jackson beamed at you and sat across from you in the opposite booth. You slid your plate over to him to offer him a bite of your food. He happily took a fry and munched as he tried to show you another video.

Your eyes gazed around the diner you sat in. It was old and beat up, sure, but they had amazing fries and burgers, so who were you to judge? It was the perfect getaway from school. No one ever came there, and it was rare to find someone who knew about it. Jackson was the exception, however.

Jackson had been one of your friends since you were little. He considered you as his best friend, and you happily accepted that title and gave him the same. Anywhere you were, Jackson wasn't too far behind. Normies had to stick together, right?

Especially two normies who knew no one else.

Unlike Jackson, though, you weren't completely hated. You were nice and quiet, giving everyone the impression that you didn't want to be friends with them as much as they didn't want to be friends with you. Jackson was hated, though, and he often took shelter in your non-hated status.

It often saved him from untrue rumors and unnecessary beatings.

His finger tapping caught you from your thoughts, and you looked at him with a confused glance. He was staring at the entrance door behind your table.

You turned carefully to see who he was watching. It was Manny. Jackson slid under the table, leaving you to appear to be sitting alone. Manny took wide, fast strides towards you and he stopped infront of your table. You munched on a few fries, feeling Jackson tremble against your legs out of sight.

"Hey, Manny." You gave him a sweet smile. "What's up?"

"Where's Jackson?!" He barked.

You shrugged. "We were supposed to meet up here, but I think he stood me up."

Manny stayed silent.

"You want some fries?" You offered him your plate. He huffed and pushed his way out of the diner.

You kicked Jackson, signaling for him to sit down like a normal person. He did, and he rested gently against the back of the booth.

"You ready to leave?" You asked.

He nodded, took another bite of your burger, and hopped up to follow you.

Together, you made your way down the street to your neighborhood. Luckily, you two were neighbors, so you didn't have to walk by yourself. Jackson's eyes trailed to a group of girls infront of you. You noticed Frankie, his long-term crush.

"Hey, don't worry about Frankie, okay?" You hummed. Jackson gave you a chuckle.

You furrowed your brows. His unbothered demeanor surprised you.

"I don't like Frankie anymore, (Y/N)." He grinned. "I like someone else."

"Oh? Who?"

"Don't worry about it."

You quirked your brow up. "Okay, whatever you say."

He smiled and focused on his phone again.

You watched the group infront of you. Every one of them were striking, from their vibrant personality to their fashionable outfits. You huffed and hugged your simple, dark jacket closer to your body. You wished you could look like them.

Or at least have a shred of their confidence.

It didn't matter. What did matter was the fact that Jackson didn't like Frankie anymore. You wondered what could have caused the sudden shift in vision.

Maybe he found a new girl? Maybe he didn't like a part of her? Maybe he was embarrassed by her? Maybe he just lost feelings altogether??

You hummed and allowed yourself to space out. Man, you wished you had their style. You definitely couldn't pull off one of your own.

Jackson leaned closer to you, the autumn air and skin-nipping cold influencing him to huddle close to you. You smiled and allowed him to enter your personal bubble. He turned his phone screen closer to you so you could see.

"What's that?" You asked.

"One of the swimming matches." He replied.

"Our school has a swim team?"

"Yeah, you never noticed?"

You scraped your mind for any memory if a swim team before shaking your head no. He sighed. "The team leader is Lagoona."

Your puzzled look dragged another sigh out of him.

"Lagoona Blue?" He asked again. "Y'know, fish monster?"

You shook your head no again and dismissed her with a wave of your hand. Then, you shoved it back in your jacket pocket. "Let's just change the subject."

"Well, anyway." He enlarged the video. You struggled to see the screen through the sunlight, his black phone case only enhancing the sun's glare. His pink fingertips held it closer for you to see. "She won another school trophy."

You shivered. "I could never."

"What do you mean? You can't swim fast?"

"I can't swim at all." You admitted. "I sink worse than a rock."

He smirked and shoved his phone in his pocket. "Yeah, right."

"Seriously!" You shoved his arm playfully.

"Okay, sure. Prove it to me."

"How?"

He stopped. "Uhm...prove it to me in the summertime!!"

You frowned deeply. "You weirdo."

He giggled. "Yeah, yeah."

You two continued to walk, ignoring strange glances from the passing monsters.

"When's the next football game?" You asked, breaking the silence.

"In 2 weeks, right after the swimming competition that happens this weekend." He spoke.

"There's going to be another competition? In this cold weather??"

He nodded. "It'll be an inside pool."

You nodded. "Doesn't help."

He linked arms with you. "Wanna go with me?" He asked.

You thought about it for a second before nodding. "Sure."
