6 o'clock rolled around quickly, meaning the swim competition would be starting soon. Lagoona scanned her eyes over the building crowd from the locker room door. She was looking for one specific person, and that person was you.
Her eyes landed on your form and softened. Oh, how beautiful you were with your (H/C) hair in the dim bleacher light.
A smile rose to Lagoona's face, and the small pit of her stomach was filled with bubbling anxiety. Her friends waved at her from the front row, but she didn't wave back. She was too focused on you to care about anything else besides winning.
She watched as you grinned at Jackson and mouthed something. She didn't know what, but she hoped it was about her. Her teammate walked up and rested a hand on her shoulder. Lagoona turned back to look at her.
"We're almost ready." She hummed.
Lagoona nodded. "Aight. Let's do this!"
You, on the other hand, focused on the large crowd that was filing in the doors. With the amount of supporters, you were sure that this match would be interesting. Jackson leaned closer to you and smirked.
"Are you excited?" He asked.
"For what?" You giggled. "Watching a bunch of teenagers flap around in water and try to be faster than the others?"
Jackson laughed. "Yeah, pretty much. It can get pretty competitive, though."
You rolled your eyes. "Mhm, it better. I want to see something interesting."
He nudged you playfully. "It will be interesting. Do you have any plans afterwards?"
Your mind flashed to Lagoona. She had asked you to go to the diner with her after, but you still didn't know why.
"Um...I think so." You admitted. "But you can come along, if you'd want."
"Where to?" Jackson frowned. He hadn't expected you to hang out with many people.
"Lagoona, actually." You nodded and looked away, feeling his stare on you the entire time. "She asked if we could go to the diner together after her competition."
"Are you sure you want me to go?"
"Duh, that's why I said that you could come along." You flicked his forehead. "Besides, I'd rather not be there alone with her."
Jackson gave you another glance and cast his eyes to the ground. He noticed his uneven shoelaces and your mismatched socks. He noticed your smooth (S/C) legs and your dirtied tennis shoes.
Then, he brought his eyes back to you. You looked so calm and relaxed, he almost didn't recognize you. The lighting in the pool building made you practically glow, and oh how pretty your eyes were.
Lagoona thought the same thing as she walked out to the pool with her team. The opposite team walked in from the other side. Loud whoops and boos sounded from the bleachers. She almost didn't recognize who was cheering who on.
But then there was you amongst the crowd, and instantly she knew where her support came from. Even if you weren't cheering for her, specifically, you were definitely cheering for Monster High. As long as Monster High had your support, so did she.
Jackson's eyes never left you, even while you stared at the swim team.
What normally would have been insecurities from seeing the skinny, gorgeous ghouls was actually pity. They looked tired and worn out and hungry. Definitely hungry. Their ribs were showing and their veins were popping out. You definitely pitied the team, despite you always hating the fact that they were pretty.
Sure, you were average. You weren't anything special. You were just like everyone else on the entire planet with nothing to make you stand out. But those girls? Whatever specialty they had, you didn't want. You could deal with being average, but you couldn't deal with being tired and hungry.
Lagoona watched you admire her team and smiled. She wanted your attention. She craved it. And to keep it a little longer, she decided to wave to her schoolmates.
Headmistress Bloodgood gave a small announcement that neither Lagoona nor you paid any mind to. You two were so focused on one another that Lagoona almost didn't hear the starting bell.
She did, however, and kicked off elegantly into the water. Her body pierced it harshly, and her quick movements cut through it with class and speed that you had never seen before. It was incredible to watch her do something that you knew you definitely couldn't.
There was zero jealousy this time. Instead, it was replaced with awe for her. Lagoona was an incredible swimmer, and that was undeniable.
The other team followed suite and split the water. But before the other team could reach the finish line, Lagoona already stood tall on the podium. As for the first race of the competition, Monster High was in the lead.
You watched as the teams continued to race one another. Some team members being faster than the others and some loosing poorly. But either way, Monster High already had a head start.
Quickly after, the teams brought out diving boards. Lagoona was up first, and she jumped up high before doing a simple flip and cutting through the water as if she were a knife in a pot of jelly.
You didn't know how much time had passed, but before you knew it Monster High was being crowned as the winning members of the competition.
Lagoona ran off to the locker room and changed hastily. She didn't want to keep you waiting, and was so excited to see you after her success. She could only imagine how proud you were of her, and she couldn't wait to hear those words come from your mouth.
She threw her soaked bathing suit in a plastic bag, then in her bookbag before throwing it over her shoulders and dashing out. She just had to get there on time.
