You listened to Jackson's nonstop ramble as you dug through your locker. He was on another spill about the schools athletic department, this time talking about the casketball team. You gave him a small smile to let him know that you were still paying attention.

You moved to shut your locker, and as soon as the door was closed, Lagoona's bright smile was blocking your view. You moved around her to put the lock back on.

"Oh, hey Lagoona." Jackson mumbled.

"Hey! How are ya?!" She asked.

Despite the dark circles around her eyes, she seemed very energetic. You furrowed your brows in worry, but didn't say anything. It wasn't any of your business, anyway.

"Good." Jackson frowned. "I'll, uh...see you later, (Y/N)."

Jackson walked off while shoving his phone away. You noticed his newfound lack of energy and care, and you almost ran after him. Lagoona stopped you.

"I was wonderin' if we could...y'know...hang out again?" She shrugged.

You watched as her body shook lightly. There was a hint of something in her eyes, something unfamiliar and something you really didn't want to mess with.

"I don't know..." You thought. "Maybe if Jackson came along."

"Oh, yeah! Of course!" She grinned widely. "Today?"

"I don't think today would be-"

"We'll meet up at the diner again!" She grinned.

You tried walking around her, but she stepped infront of you again.

"Please, (Y/N)."

Her begging was foreign and untrustworthy, causing a small pit to form in your gut. It wasn't like Lagoona to beg, and even though you didn't know her very well, you knew better than whatever stunt she was trying to pull.

"Fine. But Jackson will be there." You gave her a glare before walking off, trying your hardest to find Jackson.

Lagoona felt her face heat up. Oh, how she loved it when you got controlling and dominant. She loved having you as an authority.

She ran back to her locker and grabbed her books before running to her class. She didn't want to waste any time. The quicker she did what she had to, the quicker she'd get to see you.

Lagoona's foot tapped impatiently all through her classes. She felt as though time was sinking through her fingers, and she wanted as much control as possible when it came to your date.

Even if Jackson was going to be there, she still considered it as something more romantic than you did. It was something she didn't want you to know, but it was still something she felt wholeheartedly.

You, on the other hand, wished that school could take even longer than normal. You wanted to delay the meet up as much as possible. Seeing Lagoona again wasn't something you were too excited for.

Sure, at first you hated her. But now? You pitied her. It was obvious she was on something, and if she wasn't then it was obvious that she was in need of help, both physically and mentally. She seemed like the most unhealthy student at Monster High.

Her once smooth belly was now carved with the marks of hunger, revealing her ribs and spine. Her hands and legs shook, and the purple-ish discoloration that coated her knees and elbows and finger joints made her look even more sickly than normal. Even her eye bags looked deathly.

In short, Lagoona looked 2 seconds away from needing a casket.

Jackson had agreed to go along, but that didn't stop your nerves. You didn't want to mix with the wrong crowd, and it seemed as if Lagoona was the exact kind of wrong crowd that you had wanted to avoid.

It didn't matter now. You had agreed to go with her.

So when the end of school came, you hesitantly trudged behind the other students to put your books away and head to the diner. Jackson seemed to note your unwillingness, and he rubbed your shoulder affectionately.

"If something, anything, goes wrong, I promise you that we can leave." He assured. "You aren't obligated to stay."

"I thought you liked Lagoona?" You asked, shoving your textbooks into place before slamming your locker door.

"To an extent." He grinned, and together you walked over to his locker. "But not more than you."

You gave a shy smile. "You're so sweet."

"Nah." He dismissed it with a wave of his hand.

"Yeah." You giggled.

It felt as if all your worry was replaced with contentment. Jackson had taken all of your negative emotions and switched them with something much more light and easy to carry.

That weight was returned as soon as Lagoona was spotted. She ran to you, ignoring the group who called out to her. She was out of breath and shaking by the time she had made it to you, but you acted as if she weren't.

"Are we ready?" She asked.

You nodded. "I guess so."

Jackson rubbed your arm again, picking up on your anxiety.

"Yeah, let's go." Jackson kept his arm around you as you walked.

Lagoona's chirpy, bright smile faultered at the sight of his arm around you. For some reason, it upset her.

She felt...replaced.

Even though she had never had that kind of closeness with you, she still felt like she deserved it. Lagoona felt so entitled to you that she hadn't even considered someone else being before her.

She swallowed it and put on a smile. You'll drop him eventually, she was sure of it. And when you did, Lagoona would be next in line for the best friend position.
