Lagoona brushed her hair back as she surfaced from the pool. Water dripped down her nose and chin and onto her collarbone. A smile made it's way onto her face from the skin-pricking cold.
You watched from a distance as the swimming team emerged from the water. They all looked strikingly beautiful with their own unique styles and personalities. You frowned at your bland jacket.
Jackson's finger snapping caught your attention, and you returned your gaze to him. He, who had suggested that you two study out on the field, held his book up to show a page.
"Focus." He chuckled.
You giggled back. "Sorry, sorry."
Your eyes struggled to comprehend the shapes and lines he had laid out over the page. You had no clue what they meant, and you didn't want to find out.
"Can we take a break, J?" You asked. "I don't wanna read it anymore."
He frowned. "(Y/N). You gotta focus!"
"I can't focus anymore!"
"Please?"
"No!
"Oh, c'mon! Let the girl rest!" A voice broke up your argument.
You looked over. Long, blonde hair waved in the wind behind the girl, and her swim uniform clung to her body.
"Lagoona!" Jackson smiled. "Hey, how's practice going?"
Jackson seemed comfortable with her, but you stayed silent. You felt out of place and awkward, and you didn't want to make any moves to be noticed.
"'s goin' good! You studyin'?" She hummed, sending a wide smile over to you.
You felt inferior, with her perfect elfin body and her perfect flowing hair and perfect batting eyes. You felt almost mocked for the way she smiled at you.
You gave a tight lipped smile back and focused down at the paper. Now you wanted to study, and you silently prayed that Jackson would end the conversation to take your attention somewhere else.
"How 'bout we go for milkshakes? Could use one right now!" She wrung her hair out. Any droplets of water left ended up on the ground.
You frowned deeper. Maybe she was trying to assert dominance over you? If so, it was totally working. Besides, you weren't an alpha female to begin with. She was definitely taking advantage of your submissive aura.
"Um, sure! You know, (Y/N) wanted a break anyways. I'm sure she'd love to go out for some food."
You gave another forced smile. "I don't have any money." You lied.
"That's aight! I'll pay for ya!" Lagoona chirped. "Just gimme time to go an' change!"
She walked off, leaving the group of other swimmers to follow after. They did so, recognizing her as their leader immediately.
You shrugged your shoulders to release some of the awkward energy you stored. "Are you friends with her?" You asked.
"Kinda. We get along well!" Jackson smiled. "But don't worry, you're still my best friend."
You gave a forced smile and packed up your study books before slinging the bookbag over your shoulders. Jackson followed your actions, and you walked over to the bleachers to wait until Lagoona came back.
She hurried out of the changing building a few minutes later with her swim bag propped up over her shoulders.
Jackson linked arms with you as Lagoona led the way out of the school courtyard. You trudged along, not wanting to be noticed by her. She waited for your slow steps to catch up, though, and she seemed completely unbothered while doing so. You scowled.
"So, I've never seen ya 'round, before!" She giggled to you. "Are ya new?"
You shook your head no. "I've been here since freshman year."
She nodded. "Ya must be really quiet then!"
You nodded. "I try to be." You mumbled.
She, who just realized the conversation was getting nowhere, slowly lowered her energy levels. She held a frown on her face as she studied the walkway.
Why weren't you interested in talking to her? Normally, loads of people want to talk to her! So why didn't you? It didn't make any sense to her, and every time she thought about shrugging it off, she couldn't. It bothered her to no end.
What did she do wrong? Was she too much? Was she not enough? Did you just not like her?
Whatever the reason, she was determined to get you to like her. She was determined to get you to see her as a friend and not as an enemy.
But in your mind, it was jealousy. You wanted her perfect hair and hips and eyes and nose and swimming abilities and lips and EVERYTHING!! You wanted to be her so so badly. But you couldn't. You were human. And you hated that you weren't special and recognizable and confident like she was.
Lagoon had loads of friends. You had Jackson and a bunch of people who barely tolerated you. Lagoona had an amazing body. In your human world, you were barely admired. Lagoona had an amazing personality. But you? You were a jealous, slimy person who only wanted what you couldn't have.
Lagoona hung her head slightly. What was she going to do? She wouldn't be able to sleep well knowing that you didn't like her!
She was so distracted that she nearly missed the diner. Your voice pulled her back to reality. "We're here."
She turned to look at you and watched as you and Jackson walked in. You glared when she sat down, flaunting her already perfect body out more.
You scowled deeper. You wished you were as original and individual as she was. But you weren't. You were just like every other human girl. There was absolutely nothing that made you stand out. And you hated it.
Jackson patted your shoulder and smiled. "You want the same as usual?" He asked.
You nodded.
An elderly, short werecat walked around with a notepad. "What can I get you kids?"
"Just some fries for me, please." Jackson hummed. "And the other human wants a burger, fries, and a (F/F) milkshake."
You shrunk back. God, you sounded like such a fat ass. Jackson nodded as the woman took down the order and even repeated it.
You were sure that Lagoona thought you were disgusting, eating such greasy and fattening food when you should be watching your weight.
Lagoona noticed your insecure frown and smiled. "I'll have the same as her!" She exclaimed.
You looked up at her and her shining smile.
It was meant to make you feel better. You knew that. But if she normally ate such nasty food and was still skinny then it meant that something was wrong with you. It was nothing changeable. It was just you that was ugly.
You internally sulked even more.
