Your morning started simple; with a Witches Brew coffee and A short walk to school. You walked by yourself this time, not having the energy to be around someone else who could possibly be energy-draining.
When you got to school, you took a quick stop by your locker to pick up some books before running off to your class. You sat by yourself at lunch, once again, and returned to your classes.
And by the end of the school day, you had successfully went one whole day by yourself. You wanted your walk home to be quiet as well, so you popped some earbuds in to keep you in your own headspace and waited in the school for students to leave before you would.
Lagoona, however, had started her morning by dashing out of bed 2 hours later than normal. She was late to school, late to lunch, and was late coming home due to a detention.
You were the last person Lagoona wanted to see. Your eyes seemed to cut into her, stripping her clean of any confidence she ever once wore.
So when the back of your head became visible to Lagoona, who had taken time from her day to pick you apart from the crowd to avoid you, her first instinct was to hide. Her first reaction was to curl up in the closest janitors closet and never come out.
But you didn't seem to notice her, so instead she trailed behind you begrudgingly. She glared at your form, spiteful that you could hold such power over her. She was a free spirit, a mist in the mountain! How dare you trap her?
Was it on purpose? Were you waiting on her to get out of detention so you could harass her again with your judgemental stares and capturing features? Or was this an honest mistake and you were actually minding your business?
Lagoona didn't know, and she resented you for it.
You turned onto a busy sidewalk and left the trail to the school. Lagoona did the same, not registering that she was supposed to turn the other way to go home.
Lagoona seethed at your confident little strut. How dare you take away her confidence and make her less beautiful? How dare you act clueless to her feelings?
You turned again, and Lagoona followed. She hated the way your legs stepped infront of eachother. She hated the way your hips rocked from side to side. She hated the way you seemed perfectly balanced with kindness and beauty, and she hated the way you stole from her.
What could you possibly steal?
Her attention. Her confidence. Her beauty. Her liveliness. Her personality. Her sleep. Everything.
Her mind was constantly plagued by you and your perfect little self. It was almost as if you did it on purpose, as if you hung around the places she liked just to bother her!
Lagoona didn't care how crazy it sounded, it was true. You had to have been waiting for her.
Lagoona watched from your neighbors driveway as you walked up to your mailbox and opened it. You pulled out a stack of envelopes and carefully tucked them under your arm to carry them to your house.
Your feet led you to your door, and you opened and shut it with no care for poor Lagoona.
She seethed again. She hated you so fucking much.
As if on cue, her glare turned into wide open eyes. She had followed you home! Lagoona checked her mind for anything to say about it.
She didn't know how she got there. She didn't remember the way back. She didn't remember if you looked back on your entire walk to see her, and she didn't know if you even knew about the following. But if you asked? Oh God, what was she going to say?
She stomped on the ground without a verbal response. It didn't matter how much she hated you, it was still wrong to follow you home.
She turned on her heel and stomped back into the direction she came from, hoping to end up back at her home before it got too late.
You, on the other hand, wrapped your arm around your mom in a hug.
"How was school?" Your mom asked.
You shrugged and leaned against the refrigerator door. "It was good."
She chuckled in surprise. "No complaints?"
"None." You smiled back. "Except...I'm tired. I'm going to nap."
Your mom nodded and watched your retreating figure go to your room.
You flopped down on your bed and closed your eyes. It was time for a nap.
You rolled over and squinted. Why nap? You didn't do anything today! You only went to school. You didn't even talk to your friends!
You shrugged off the thought. Your social battery was dead, and for once you were going to recharge it properly.
Your brain flashed to Lagoona, and your stomach sank. You wanted to be her. You wanted to be like her, at least. She was the reason your social battery was dead, and yet she had the audacity to walk around all pretty and perfect?
You seethed. It wasn't fair! You wanted to be pretty and noticed too!
But you weren't. You were average.
You shut down your thoughts again.
If Lagoona's confidence is what you wanted, then why not get some of your own?
But how?
Fake it 'till you make it, right?
