Lagoona ran to class, making sure to dodge every hall monitor and teacher that happened to be walking around campus. She was late again, and she prayed for a little bit more lenience than last time. She shivered at the memory of her in detention. Lagoona rounded a corner.
Her footsteps came to a sudden stop at the sight of you. You were standing by a water fountain with a grin on your face. Lagoona's eyes admired your light makeup. Surely you were trying to show off again?
She stepped closer to the wall, her eyes never once leaving your smile. Your pretty, lighthearted smile that she envied. Her stomach turned in jealousy. God, you were gorgeous.
Lagoona pressed her body further against the wall. Her weak attempt at blending in worked, and you turned around with zero acknowledgement towards her.
Lagoona felt embarrassed. You didn't even notice her? You didn't care? To her, it was like a smack in the face. Even with all her efforts and her acknowledgement to you, you couldn't be bothered to return to her the same?
She would feel better if you gave her a reaction, even if it was a negative one! But for you to just...not? That was more irritating than anything.
Lagoona gritted her teeth and watched as you strutted off to wherever you came from, leaving her alone in the hallway. She looked around at the emptiness. Then, she lethargically walked to her class.
You sat at your desk, paying little attention to everything around you. Instead, your eyes stayed on Jackson's phone. He was showing you another video of the swim team.
Your burning hot jealousy didn't seem to boil as much as it used to. Sure, it was slowly simmering in your gut, whispering in your ear of all your flaws. But it seemed tame and slow.
It was a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.
Jackson stared at you. He didn't care about the video. He never had. The only reason he showed you these stupid recordings was just to get your attention. You were on a league that Jackson could only dream of being on. You were so much better than him, and yet you gave him the chance to be your friend?? Your best friend at that?
He refused to let your attention slip. Unless you were to full out deny him and his efforts, he wouldn't stop trying to get your attention.
Lagoona felt the same way. Your attention was all she wanted now. She wanted you to hate her and to go out if your way to ruin her life, only because it would mean that she could do the same to you.
But for you to just not care? That hurt worse than her hatred for you.
The bell rang almost immediately after, and you, who had decided that you were ready to go home, turned to Jackson.
"Can we leave now?" You hummed. "I don't wanna finish today. I just want to leave."
Jackson gave a small smile. It was obvious that he wasn't paying any attention to what you had said. "Sure!"
You giggled and picked up your bag to sling it over your shoulders. Jackson did the same and followed you from the classroom.
You made your way through the crowd of students and to the front doors. Then, you walked out. It was simple yet freeing, and the weight of your responsibilities rolled off of your shoulders.
Jackson stumbled out behind you. Only now did he realize what you had asked him. He didn't stop you, though. He wanted to seem cool and badass for you. He wanted to fit in with you. So, he shut his mouth and followed.
Lagoona peered at you from the doors. Your retreating back angered her.
Maybe she should skip, too? Lagoona sighed. She did come in late, and there's no point in staying unless she was going to pay attention, which she wasn't.
It didn't take much to push her into leaving, and she stepped out of the school building.
But what would she do? Now that she had all this free time, she didn't know how to spend it. Maybe she'd follow you to the diner again? Just to see if you were as predictable as she thought? No, she had to stop following. Maybe she should just go to a park?
Without a second to think, she was already following the trail to her favorite park. She couldn't wait to be alone again. It was nice to have moments to think, and she noticed her attraction to just being left alone.
Lagoona looked ahead of her. You and Jackson were still there. She froze. Was she following you again?
With a good look around, she sighed. Nope, this was definitely the way to the park. So then, what were you and Jackson doing?
The park came into view, and you and Jackson walked over to a swing set. Lagoona's face flushed. There was no way that you wanted to go to the same park as her. It was too coincidental! It was too lined up! She hid behind a bush and thought for a minute.
Were you following her? Were you the one stalking instead of her? It would make since, wouldn't it? But why would you want to follow her, out of everyone there was? Lagoona didn't know why it bothered her so much.
She had followed you to begin with! But now that you were following her, if you were following her, she didn't know what to do. Maybe this was your form of payback? Maybe this was your way of seeking revenge? Or maybe you just enjoyed fucking with people.
It didn't matter to Lagoona. What did matter was that you were involved, and she absolutely fucking hated it. There was no escape from you, and she absolutely despised every second you were alive. She didn't want to live in a world that you were in.
In all honesty, she didn't want to live at all.
