As quickly as Lagoona had appeared in your life, she disappeared just as fast. The times you had spent hating her and yourself faded into one blurred memory that you had no intention of bringing up again. You had easily stopped caring about her and her strange behavior, and instead focused on Jackson, who was much more important than her in your opinion.
For Lagoona, it was the exact opposite. Whatever infection you were diseased with had spread onto her, leaving her writhing in obsession and infatuation. Your every move was something worth fawning over. Her friends had noticed a change in her, but they didn't want to bother her. She definitely looked high on something at all times, and no one really felt up to the task of getting her help.
Help wouldn't have done anything anyways. Lagoona didn't want help. She wanted you. And the more you resisted her, the more her attachment festered and grew into something impatient and chaotic.
But Lagoona loved the chaos, and she thrived in knowing that she was close to her breaking point. She had thought about leaving town for a bit, just long enough to settle her mind, but no. She'd be too far away from you. So much could happen that she could miss, and she didn't want anything to happen that she wasn't there for.
Her breaking point was her goal. She knew she wouldn't be able to do anything, not while she still had morals and a conscious. But every time she watched you, every time she felt her heart squeeze in adoration, she knew she was getting closer. She knew her breaking point would help her get with you.
Maybe you liked people like that? Maybe you liked the secretly psychotic ones? Maybe you needed that thrill?
It didn't matter. The closer Lagoona came to snapping, the closer she felt to winning you over.
But until then, she was stuck watching you enjoy your life with Jackson. In her mind, it was all faked. In her head, you would much rather be with her.
She settled on that thought as she wriggled around in the diner booth she sat at. Normally, she'd be at swimming practice, but she didn't have enough time to practice and to watch you.
Her solution? Skip practice.
The consequences of skipping practice would definitely be worth the reward of getting you.
Your giggle rang through the diner, and Lagoona snapped her head over to your direction. Your smile eased the ache in her chest. She laid her head on the table and admired how sweet you seemed.
You and Jackson rose from your seats and, taking one last sip of your drink before setting it down, walked from the building. Lagoona scurried to her feet and followed.
The wind whipped at your face, leaving bright red marks from its abuse. Jackson pulled your hood over your head and smiled down at you. You leaned against him and grinned before muttering a small 'thank you'.
Lagoona cringed. She'd be even sweeter. She'd give you a kiss.
Jackson leaned down and gave you a small peck on your cheek. Lagoona cringed again.
She'd give you a REAL kiss.
Jackson wrapped an arm around you and started your walk. Lagoona frowned at your shivering form.
Your journey home didn't take long, and before you could walk in through your door Lagoona was already in her hiding place. She peeked her head out to see you walk in, then glared at Jackson as he left. You entered the house with a sigh.
The silence that filtered through your house made a shiver run up your spine. It felt cold and hollow, but most importantly, something felt wrong.
You rubbed your arm as you walked through the dark towards a light switch. The lights came on with a simple click, and your eyes trailed around the room for anything that could be out of place. Nothing seemed off, so you stepped further into your home and to your bedroom.
Your shoes were the first things you slid off, followed by your socks.
You looked around your room. Anxiety filled your gut. You looked towards your bedroom window and glared.
The feeling in your stomach was enough to make you reach over and close the curtains. Whatever was off about your home didn't phase you too much, and you shrugged off the feeling as stress. Surely a bath would help?
Lagoona squinted through your hallway window, watching as you entered your home's bathroom and shut the door. When she saw the lock turn, she nodded and rushed to your bedroom window. She opened it and crawled through, only quick enough to grab a wadded up t-shirt from your dirty clothes hamper and crawl back out.
She shut the window and squatted below it. Her hands held the fabric against her face as she took a large inhale. The smell of your perfume and sweat registered in her brain as a type of drug, and she huffed it again. You were addicting, and Lagoona didn't want to quit. You were like a pill that Lagoona couldn't wait to take.
Her eyes rolled into her skull as her body slumped against the wall. Her legs trembled under her, threatening to give out at any moment. Lagoona didn't care. The scent you provided was something she wanted to overdose on.
Her legs finally buckled, and her body crashed against the grass, her face still tucked deep into your shirt. Her legs and fingers began tingling, and soon after her vision became blotched and spotted.
Her nails dug deep against it as she pushed it harder against her face. She let out a struggled breath from the suffocation, but made no movements to save herself.
Her body stayed firm on huffing the scent, trading out its own consciousness for the euphoria of the rush you gave her. Everything around her surrounded itself in black. Then, she succumbed to the darkness as well.
You stepped from the bath and slid on your pajamas, your brain being reconnected from the much needed relaxation. Your feet led you to your bedroom, where you stared at the window. The moment you had exited the bathroom, the same eerie feeling settled against your spine.
A gut instinct wasn't something you normally ignored, so you stood directly infront of the window. The urge to open it itched your palms, and you prepared yourself for whatever was to come. You swiped the curtains to the side and stared out. You were sure that something was there, but after seeing nothing, you felt even more on edge.
In a last attempt, you opened the window and peeked your head out. You looked around. Nothing to the left of you. Nothing to the right of you.
Then, you looked up. Nothing there, either. Finally, you glanced at the ground.
A body lay against the grass, staining the silhouette in your mind. You squinted to get a better look.
"Lagoona?"
The name left you out of breath.
"Lagoona?! What the hell?!"
