I was on a call with my patient's husband when I heard a knock on my office door.

CALL: Please make sure you bring Laura for our next appointment Mr. Hall, next week should work fine.

CALL: just a second Mr. Hall. I put my hand over the receiver.

"Come in". I say and go back to my conversation.

CALL: Sorry about that Mr. Hall, yes that should work fine.

I look up from my notes when my colleague and best friend Grace enters my office, and she doesn't look like herself she looks like she has been crying. I hold up my hand and mouth.

"Give me one minute Grace".

she nods her head as she waits for me to finish my call.

CALL: Perfect Mr. Hall I will see you and Laura next week. And make sure that Laura is taking her medications like I have requested. Yes, just call me if any issues arise, we will talk soon.

After my conversation with Mr. Hall ended, I wrote some notes on my note pad. Laura Hall was a patient of mine who needed extra care after her last episode.

"So, girl, are you alright? you look upset".

Grace flops herself down onto my couch I use for my patients, and she signs heavily. I could hear a quiver in her voice.

"I-I think me and Daniel are going to break up". Grace sobs. tears streaming down her cheeks.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, Grace and Daniel breaking up, that can't be right. Grace and Daniel have been together for so long now and I honestly thought he would propose already.

"Daniel and I had this big fight". She begins. "He didn't come home last night". Grace continues crying harder this time.

"Oh Grace". I go over to the sofa and embrace Grace in a hug. I try comforting her and Grace cries even more.

"I-I just love Daniel so much". She continues to sob.

"Shh, don't cry Grace. Tell me what happened". I try calming her down.

"I told Daniel I wanted to have a baby. Asked him what I saw for our future". She wipes her tears.

"What did he say?"

I mean Grace and Daniel have been together for a long time now and it was expected they would have been married by now already.

"Daniel gave me this lame excuse that he wants to wait". she throws up her hands in frustration. "I mean how long does he want me to fucking wait here? He told me he wants to wait until his practice takes off and he's settled. What the hell Shay? What is he waiting for, why hasn't he proposed yet?" Grace signs in complete frustration.

As scary as it is I wish sometimes I could find real love like Grace and Daniel's. The undying love that they share is so amazing. The way they look at each other there is no words to describe. As you can guess my last relationship didn't end so good, I almost lost my life and it left me scared and broken. For the past 4 years now, I have closed myself off to any type of connection which have come my way, thanks to my crazy psychotic ex. After almost dying I made it a point to do self defense classes and learned how to fight, which helped me to become more stronger and less scared, I can really kick ass now. But there are some days that I'm still scared to death that Axel will find me and disrupt this life I have built for myself. I just hope when that day comes, I can remember what I have learnt in my classes.
