I pushed my door open quietly, only to be met with a face full of flowers. "I uh, got you these." Lin stated, scratching the back of her neck. I knit my eyebrows together, giving her a look. "So, what are you doing today?" She asked, handing me the flowers. "I have to meet with Izumi and my father." I stated quietly, walking through the palace. The air filled with buttery bread and I felt myself pull towards the kitchen.

I tugged the door, making my way into the large room. I smiled a little making eye contact with the head chef. "What can I do for you this morning, Princess Y/N?" He asks, making his way to the girls. "Just a couple pieces of bread and then we will be out of your hair." I smile, he hands me just that and we made our way out of the room. I passed Lin a piece of bread, as a smile formed on her face. "I forget that you're a princess sometimes." She stated, sitting down on a nearby bench. "Most people do." I reply, taking a bite out of my bread.

"I'm not going to rule the nation someday like Izumi, hell I'm unsure if I even want to be here anymore." I state,  Lin listens to my words closely. "Come back to Republic City with me." She smiles, leaning closer to me. "I can't do that." My voice strains at that.

All I had ever wanted was to be free of the Fire Nation, I hadn't asked to be born a princess and there was no point in me being here forever. "Sure you can. We can get a nice place together, I can start working under my mother and we can live comfortably." Lin's smile was getting wider. "I'll think about it." I reply, slipping her my last piece of bread.

I lay strewn over my bed, book in hand. It had been hours since I last saw Lin and it was hard to think about leaving the Fire Nation for good. Yes, I absolutely loved my people and yes I wanted a life out of it but my mind fluttered to my family. I heard a knock at my door, snapping me out of my mind. "Come in!" I yell, to be met with my older sister's face. She had a look of worry and I couldn't help but feel my heart sink to the bottom of my stomach.

It was about our mother.
