xii. Confused

I spent the first day on the ferry slumped in my room, aimlessly reading a book to escape reality just for a few moments. I wouldn't say I was avoiding Lin, but merely concentrating on my own thoughts. I couldn't escape the memory of Lin kissing me, it was almost burned into my mind. I know that Lin is going through a rough time, and I don't either of us to be taken advantage of. 

Tenzin left a fresh cut on Lin's love life, and it wasn't going to heal itself overnight. I didn't know what Lin wanted, or needed. She completely ignored all of my questions whenever I asked, and I felt a knot tighten in the pit of my stomach. "Y/n," Izumi knocked on my door. I stood up, patting off my gown before opening the door for what I thought would only be my sister. "Lin said you were avoiding her, so I thought I'd make sure she got in." A shit-eating grin spread across Izumi's face, before she ran off in another direction. 

"Why are you avoiding me?" Lin asked, pushing my door shut. "I'm not." I replied, burying my face back into my book. "Then what would you call it? I've been knocking on your door all day and you answered when you thought it was just Izumi." Lin blatantly stated, knitting her eyebrows together. "What do you want me to say, Lin? You are confusing me and I just wanted to be alone with my thoughts. Is that too much to ask?" I snap, facing the taller girl. 

"Y/n you're confusing me as well, one second you're sitting in my kitchen with a glass of water speaking to me like a person and the next you're angry at me for asking a question." Lin replied, sitting down on my bed. "Lin, you have never cared for my nation, for my culture, not even for me until this recent trip. I don't know what is going on since your breakup but I don't want to be a rebound." I state, closing my book to meet her eyes. 

"You are not a rebound!" Lin yelled, a look of anger began growing on her face. "Then what is it Lin? You broke up with Tenzin, what three days ago? Now you're kissing me and shit!" I state, standing from my bed. "Because I love you!" She yelled back. "It's too soon for you to even know if you love me!" "Obviously I do, I wouldn't have kissed you if I didn't-" "Lin shut up!"

Lin stared at me for a moment before walking to my door and slamming it, the walls of my room shaking. I could feel hot tears begin to prickle at the corners of my eyes but I just blinked them away. Returning to my book.
