Imposter #1 (Short Story)

Sykkuno's POV:

I was in the tree room, doing the final measurements of the temperature of the tree in the oxygen section of the Polus site. It's been a long couple of... days? Weeks? Months? I don't know how time works on this planet but for however long I've been here, it's been a really good time. 

Ever since I was little I've always wanted to go to space, I guess you could say it was my childhood dream. It took a while to convince commander Brodin to let me up here with the rest of the crew, but I'm very happy that I was let up here.

I'm a botanist on this mission, meaning I pretty much deal with plant stuff like, I don't know, 95% of the time I'm here. But the other 5% of my time on this planet has been everything that little kid wanted from me and more. It was such a breath taking experience, from the lower gravity, to the awesome purple grass spread all across the planet. I didn't even mind that I was primarily stationed in the 02 section throughout our expedition, as getting to be on this planet, in this moment was enough for me.

And besides, I got to see Rae pretty much all day at my station! Rae was an environmental expert, often monitoring the weather nodes and C02 canisters and what not. This meant that our stations were right next to each other, and if I'm being honest, we kinda hit it off.

I don't think she likes me or anything, and this is definitely not the first time we've spoken to one another, but I feel like we've grown a special connection during our time together on this planet. We actually have a lot in common, we both are kind of nerdy in the sense that we both love video games and movies a lot, however she's a lot more outgoing than I am. We're both super excited and interested in space and this whole mission, she even told me that she also shared that childhood dream of being an astronaut. And we also had this small little hope that we would come across an alien, or some other form of life on this planet, but that seemed a bit less likely to happen as the days went by.

And might I add, Rae is also an extremely attractive woman. She has this long and silky yet wavy hair that I always loved to see flip whenever she took her helmet off. Her very tiny and adorable body that showcased all her curves. Her gorgeous face with those cherry red lips and smoldering eyes. And lets not forget her angelic voice and that wonderful laugh that always makes me swoon for her the more I hear it. I don't know why I'm thinking like this about her. I mean it's not like she'll ever feel the same.

For that reason I tried my very hardest not to fall for her, but it would be an understatement to say that it was a struggle for sure. I just did my best to stay friendly with her, keep my head held high, and do my job for the remainder of the expedition. There wasn't that much time left here on Polus, so while I was really sad to leave this place, it also made me slightly relieved that I wouldn't have to hold my breath throughout the day due to me being so close to Rae. I mean seriously, she took my breath away every time she smiled, every time she laughed, and every time we even spoke to one another.

Before I knew it, it was our last day on this planet. We packed all of our things, uploaded our findings, and boarded the ship, preparing to lift off out of here. But for whatever reason Rae was taking quite a while to get ready.

"Come on, what the hell is she doing?" An aggravated Toast commented, clearly restraining himself from raising his voice. I didn't want Rae to get in trouble, especially not with our mission leader Toast, so I decided to go look for her. I was also a bit concerned about her as well. It wasn't in her character to just disappear out of nowhere.

"I'm gonna go look for her..." I said as I stepped out of the dropship and took a hard right towards the electrical station.

"Fine, just make it quick okay?" Toast yelled to me to which I nodded looking back at him.
