The Real Father (Short Story)

AN: Just wanted to write something cute for you all :)

Takes place in an AU where Michael knocks up Rae on accident and immediately runs away in response to figuring out.

Btw I'm just going off of how child birth is portrayed on screen. I've never actually witnessed child birth and I've obviously never experienced it (imagine tho) so that being said I could be over exaggerating it a bit but idk.

Sykkuno's POV: (August 21st, 2022)

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Rae screamed out in pure pain as she held onto my hand as tightly as possible, to the point where it was starting to hurt pretty bad in of itself, but there as no way I was about to complain about some miniscule constriction of my hand when Rae's going through this right now. It should be Michael who's here to support Rae in her time of need, that complete douchebag. It's because of him that Rae's gonna be a single mother now. Still can't believe that not only will the baby not have a father, but Rae also won't have a partner to help her out in parenting. I won't make the same mistake as that asshole though, I'll be there for Rae through and through. Uncle Thomas is what they'll call me!

"Everything's gonna be okay Rae! Just keep pushing you're almost there!" I said enthusiastically as Rae looked directly forward and took rapid and deep breaths, still having a death grip on my hand, which again, I did nothing to complain about.

"We can see the baby's head Ms. Hofstetter!" The doctor delivering the baby announced to Rae, giving her the strength she need to keep on pushing. After a little while longer, and a lot of screaming from Rae, the cord was snipped, and the doctor carefully pulled out the baby, at which point Rae's screaming came to a complete halt as she then focused on taking deep breaths to calm from what was sure to be one of the most painful and unforgettable experiences she'll ever have the pleasure of feeling.

"You did it Rae. I'm so proud of you for doing this, for being here right now after everything you've had to struggle with over the past few months." I expressed how highly I thought of Rae and how proud I was of her bravery. She looked to her left and smiled at me with tears in her eyes.

"Syk?" She asked softly, cupping my cheek in her hand as I nodded. "Thank you... for being here..." She thanked me, grateful for both me and my presence. I smiled at her in return and we remained like that with Rae's heavy breathing and the heart rate monitor being the only sources of sound in the room. Eventually after about 7 minutes or so, the doctor came back with the baby in hands, and immediately handed the baby over to Rae, who released my cheek from her grip and instantly started tearing up in joy upon seeing her newly born baby being handed to her, something that she accepted by reaching for the baby.

"Here you are Rachel! Congratulations on your new baby boy!" The doctor told her the baby's gender just before handing him to Rae. She instantly began cradling the sleeping baby in her arms and looking down on him with loving eyes and a massive smile. I too looked at the newborn son with a large smile, but I didn't wanna touch him without Rae's permission. I also just wanted Rae to have that moment alone of the first time she was handling her own baby in her own hands. She hasn't looked this happy in almost a year.

"You know..." Rae began speaking to me, still looking at the baby and shaking him around a little bit in his sleep. "I wasn't really sure about this. Y'know, being a mother and all that. I always thought that I wouldn't put 100% into being a parent, especially with no having a father here to help me..." She started to trail off shamefully, almost shedding a tear. I was about to comfort her even more up until she started speaking again, this time in a more positive tone. "But now? Finally seeing him. It's all so clear now. I mean look at him! He's so beautiful! I'm gonna give it my all, and he's gonna have the best life possible. I'll make sure of it..." Rae made an official promise to be the best mother se could be, something that made her all the more admirable in my book.
