"FELIX!" Anger flooded my veins. I turn toward the remainder of the horde of small monsters, hands clenched around the hilt of my swords until my knuckles were white. Roaring, I drew their attention from the others toward me.

The current leader of them howled and shrieked, charging with the rest to me. I lifted my hands and smiled darkly. When they reached me I shifted to my Dragon self. I crushed multiples of them, flung some into trees upon which they exploded into black blood and skin, and bit many more in halves. After spitting the top halves onto the ground, I shifted back down, though keeping my still healing wings.

"Ugh, they taste disgusting!" I procured a glass of water and gargled until I couldn't taste the copper twang of blood anymore.

"Where's Felix?" Asked Riley, snapping me back to harsh reality. I sniffed the air and located the musky scent of Felix amidst the smell of blood and dust. We ran after him, stopping short at the edge of a cliff riddled with tunnel openings.

I followed to about 30 feet away from us and found the tunnel they took. Reaching out, I felt Felix's conscious, but he didn't respond. That left a pit in my stomach and anger in my heart. Petey told the boys to keep guard while we went to get Felix.

I slid down the tunnel that seemed to last forever. I clawed to a stop so I wouldn't fall into the abyss that the tunnel ended as. Petey soon followed, stopping behind me with his feet as brakes.

The only source of light was the tunnel that led back to the surface in the center of the cave. The single shaft of sunlight lit the small plateau in the middle. And upon that plateau was the crumpled form of Felix, out cold.

Petey teleported us to him. It all seemed too easy. I dropped down next to him and shook his shoulders to wake him. He stirred but didn't open his eyes.

"Ah, for the love of Neverland, that hurts! Stop!" Petey and I sigh in relief.

"Woman up, Felix, It's only bruising!" He sneered in my direction, never opening his eyes once. "Why aren't you opening your eyes?"

He went to answer but was cut off by claws scraping rock. The creatures appeared from nothing, heading for us. They shoved Felix to the side, aiming mostly for Petey and I.

Felix teetered on the edge and, with one final shove, fell off into the blackness. Petey blasted a row of the off the plateau and I sprinted down the isle. Jumping after Felix, I reached out and wrapped my tail around him, careful to not impale him on my spikes.

I could hear the wind whistle through my wings as I attempted to stop our fall. The tattered membrane caused us to slam into the stone wall. I dig in my claws and skid to a stop. I heard Petey fighting off the things, so I began climbing my way back up to help him.

"It couldn't kill you to lay off the second helpings, Felix!"

"Then give me something so I can help climb, Beryl!" I handed him his dagger and he began pulling himself up by stabbing in the blade inch by inch. I finally reach level with the plateau and prepare to launch over.

"We won't make that jump!" Shouted the closed-eyed Felix.

"Will make it." I shout back and we jump, rolling through the monsters and to Petey. I jump up and grab him by his arms, lifting tediously into the air. I flew for the opening in the ceiling

"Ber, we won't fit!" Shouted Petey. Goodness, these boys and their confidence it's overwhelming.

"Will fit!" I tuck in my wings and told them to straighten out. We sped for the opening and burst out into the sunlight.

We break through the cave entrance and out into the light sky. Crashing to the ground, we all roll to a stop. Felix stood and shook his head free of dirt, suspiciously keeping his eyes closed the whole time. I stood and waited for the world to stop spinning before looking around for Ber.

"Told ya we'd fit." She was on hands and knees, panting hard and squinting in pain.
"Ber, what's wrong love?" She hissed out a breath and stretched out her left wing. It was broken, the thin but strong bone was at an angle it never should be.

"It should be fine, just hurts like a mother. Back to my previous question: why are tour eyes closed, Felix?" Felix shifted uncomfortably, face down at the ground.

"I'm blind..." Mumbled Felix, still facing the ground.

"What?" Felix's head slowly raised up and in our general direction. He opened his eyes. They used to be a bright blue, now they are a milky grey color, even the pupil was a darker grey. For the first time since I've ever known him, his eyes were rimmed with shiny tears.

"I'm blind, Beryl."
