Kristen POV:

After Sierra left, I took April to see my mom. She'd been asking to go see her grandma all week and I'd been avoiding it, because she'd gotten worse since the last time we saw her, hence the increase in treatment.

And because it's worse, it affected her physical appearance. She begged me not to bring April to see her, but I couldn't sit there and keep her from her grandma.

April loved Mom. When we she started losing hair, April would help her put on the head ties and sometimes beanies. Then there'd be times when Mom would teach April Spanish.

She used to sit with her and teach her the basics, from the moment she learned to read. It warmed my heart. That same heart broke, every time I'd hear my daughter beg to see her grandm

other and I'd have to turn her down. April's last visit was around 2 weeks ago, so I thought it'd been a sufficient time space.

We were in the car, almost at the hospital, when my phone began to ring. Handing me my phone from the backseat, April let out slight cries as she stretched out her hand. Taking it from her, a smile spreads across my face as I see the contact name.

"Hi babe" I smiled, whispering down to the last part, trying for April to not hear.

"Hey baby, how are things? I know you said you were taking Apes to see your mom, so I was just checking in" she asks.

"Well, we're almost at the hospital, so we'll see. Did you get back to Sade?" I replied.

When Sierra got the call from Sade, I immediately recognized the tone of her voice. I had that tone in my voice once.

I was so scared, yet excited to be pregnant; but I didn't know what my mom would think. I was petrified for her reaction. That's why I told Sierra to go. Sade needed her more than I did.

"I did get back to her, turns out I'm gonna be an aunt.......again" she said, her voice laced with pure excitement.

Smiling at her joy, I let out a small laugh and continue,
"Now I'm not one to say I told you so, buttttt"

"But nothing, you convincing me to go is not you predicting my sister's pregnancy" she retorted.

"I just heard you roll your eyes in defeat" I taunted.

"I hate you."

"And yet you date me" I laughed, pulling into the hospital carpark. "Okay, uhm I'm at the hospital now, so I gotta go"

"Kay, bye babe" she sighed, sounding a bit sad.

"Are you upset that our conversation is cut short?" I question before I'm met with a dead line.

Laughing at her childish behaviour, I put the car in park and turn it off. Getting out and walking to the other side, I open the door and take April out.

Walking into the hospital, I greet the secretary, Clara, and head to my mom's ward. Turning the nob, I open the door and I'm met with the widest smile.

"Abuelita!" April exclaimed, making Mom laugh a little.

"Mi nieta" Mom laughed, putting her hands out for April.

Carrying her over, I put April down at the bedside and let her crawl forward a bit, to give Mom a hug.

"Hi Mama" I smiled, placing a small kiss on her cheek.

"Hija" she laughed, squeezing my hand.

"Abuela, Momma has a really cool friend, her name is Sierra. She gets Momma to let me watch Lion King as many times as I want! And I think she likes Momma a lot. Ou, and I figured out how to say my name in the right way since last time, and there's this lady-" April rambled on and on, about the things that had happened since we last saw Mom.

Taking a seat in the corner, I sit and watch them lovingly.

A/N: I haven't updated in a week, and this is short as fuck 🥲
Feel free to yell at me 😔✋

Edit: TA fun fact #5: Isabelle (Kristen's mother) goes into remission at the end of the book, but was supposed to die in its original drafting. Either her, or Joan (Sierra's grandmother).
