Sierra POV:
I felt bad that Kristen had gone through so much, and at such a young age. Assuming she was the same age as Lea, she'd had a rough 5-6 years. And yet she was still so carefree and kind hearted. God, she took my drunk ass to her house because she didn't want me to get hurt driving while intoxicated. And she certainly didn't look like she'd given birth before. Her body was beautiful. Her hips were just the right amount of curve, her upper body was lightly muscular and her skin was clear.
Instead of heading straight back to work, I brought her to an ice cream parlor I used to come to with my grandmother when I first moved here. It held a lot of gross memories that we'd shared before she went back home to Trinidad. My family is originally from the island, but in her early days, my grandma came here and began her business.
"Sierra?" the sound of her voice brings me out of my thoughts as I look over to her side.
"Yes?" I hum in response, looking to her eyes.
"This isn't the office" she states, as her eyes wander around us.
"I know. I brought you somewhere fun" I replied, powering down the car and getting out.
Following suit, she gets out and walks around to my side.
We walked into the parlor side by side. Getting through the door, the smell of sweets and candies filled the air and invaded my nose, putting a wide smile on my face.
"Be free" I said to Kristen, her eyes widened at the variety of things to choose from. She slowly ran up to the counter and began to choose. Smiling at her behaviour, I walked to her side and got myself something.
After a while, we were sat at a table outside and enjoying whatever was left of our lunch hour. We barely spoke, leaving an uncomfortable silence to surround us.
"You know what" Kris began, making me look up at her. "I told you my entire life story, your turn" she finished folding her arms with a pout.
Chuckling at her behaviour, I set aside my cup and look at her.
"Well that's only fair. If you're wondering, my accent is one of Trinidad" I begin, making her jaw drop a little at my clarification. "Yep, I'm Trinidadian. Trinidad is one of the more popular, yet unknown countries of the Caribbean. We tend to be quite wild and vulgar, but as a people we can work together if we try. If you're wondering how I ended up here, it started with my grandma. She moved here during her younger days and started the company. She met my grandad here and they settled and had my dad a few years later. When my dad was 20 he went back to Trinidad to live as he had fell in love with it on the various vacations they'd gone on over the years. That's where he met my mom and they settled, got married and had me and my siblings. My brother Shane was their first, second was the twins Skyler and Sarai, and there was me and lastly, Sade. I hadn't seen my parents in years since I came to live with my grandparents when I was 14"
"Why'd you come to live with them?" she asked, looking at me attentively "That is, if you don't mind me asking. You don't have to answer"
"At the age of 14 I came out as lesbian to my best friend, Paige. She said she accepted me and promised to keep it secret. That was until we had a bit of a fight and she decided to run her mouth" I sighed, remembering the dreadful point of my life.
"The entire school, even the principal found out. Not only was it my family, but the entire Caribbean is a deadly zone for LGBTQIA+ individuals. It's ridden with homophobia and out of place idiots. The principal, of course called my parents, who scolded me and discarded of me like I was nothing. I was submerged into a pit of neglect and bullying for 4 months, until my grandma came to visit for Christmas. I vividly remember her telling my parents off. She yelled at my parents and made hell, fighting them down for treating me like any less of their child because of my sexual orientation. She took me back with her that year and I haven't seen them since" I said, tears threatening my eyes, as I looked down at my hands and began playing with the rings on my fingers.
It hasn't felt so easy to talk to someone in such a long time. I haven't fully opened up about my past to anyone outside of Mia. And even so, it took me a year and a half of being with her before I felt safe to talk about it.
"My siblings however, they accepted me and loved me. Beside from Shane. He neglected me just like my parents, and honestly, I couldn't be bothered. Sade and I were the closest. She came to live with me and our grandparents a few years after I did. And as for the twins, they were 17 when I left and visited us whenever they could. Sky was manning the branch of grandma's business in New Jersey. Sarai's an author and she has one of the best selling books in the romance genre. She also has a children's book, and her biography. Turns out I wasn't the only closeted kid in the house. Sarai's also a lesbian. My grandma stepped down as head of the company 4 years ago and entrusted me with it. She'd been mentoring me, throughout and after I got out of university. She moved back to Trinidad after to stepping down, to enjoy her final years. I speak to her frequently and as of late, she hasn't been sounding as she was before, but she's insisting that she's okay" I finished off, still fighting back my tears, as I refused to look back up to Kristen.
It was then I felt a pair of warm hands connect with my own and give them a light squeeze. Hesitantly, I raised me head, allowing my eyes to catch hers. Her eyes glossing over with light tears, as she holds an apologetic smile on her face. Gently nodding her head, I felt the sympathy radiating off of her.
As our eyes locked once more, we stared and stared at each other, for what felt like an eternity. We were lost in one another's eyes, neither of us wanting the moment to end.
"What the fuck is going on here?" yelled a voice, I knew all too well.
