Justice

Entry 18: Hunt

       The nightmares were getting worse. I would see Light relentlessly writing more names in the Death Note laughing like he was having the time of his life. This madman wasn't my brother anymore, he was full fledged Kira. The maniacal laughter was like a warning bell in my mind, and it was painful like needles. I am justice, and the world will bow to me. Suddenly, Misa, and Higuchi appeared, smiling demonically. We are justice the two Kiras proclaimed in warped voices that made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. They suddenly had L tied to a chair and Light was grinning dangerously, "Come and save him, little sister!"

"LIGHT!!" I was screaming frightfully again. He had transformed into a shinigami again and ravenously sauntered toward L. I ran angrily towards my brother and I began yelling in fury.

My eyes opened and I was back in my house with L. I felt bad that I was constantly waking him up with my nightmares. I cried in embarrassment when I woke up in L's arms.

"I'm so sorry." I buried my face in his chest to hide my shame. "There's nothing to be sorry about sweetheart." L gently stroked my hair. "But I keep waking you up," I knew my eyes were shining with tears. "Saki, you know I hardly ever sleep because I'm almost always thinking and solving problems. So you're helping in the investigation and helping me," he kissed my forehead and smiled at me. "You are never an annoyance or a burden to me. You won't ever have to worry about that."

L's reminder warmed my heart and made me feel better. The fact that he cherished me as his wife made me feel special.

"Thank you for being so sweet to me, L. I am grateful for you." I snuggled closer. "I'm grateful for you too, I must thank you for being sweet to me as well. Your kindness is so wonderful, there isn't a lot of kindness in this world." he stroked my face and softly kissed me. "I love you Saki, you're my forever." "I love you L Lawliet, you're my forever." I kissed him back.

Suddenly, L got an idea, "Why don't we go outside and look at the stars. The fresh air will clear your mind." "That's a great idea."

We had a little garden of pink azaleas next to a pond in the backyard of our house. It was peaceful and serene. L and I sat together outside, and we took in the scenery, and took in the fresh air.

  I closed my eyes and laid my head on his shoulder; I could have fallen asleep there and then. I listened to the sound of the night and I took deep breaths to calm myself down.

"Take as much time as you need, and I'll hold you." L told me in a soothing voice, and I nodded and snuggled to him. "You're too good to me." I flirted.

I looked up at him, smiled, and kissed him. Every time we kissed, my heart would go fuzzy, and I felt like the world wasn't always a dark place. We sat there and kissed, all of our problems melting away. I definitely saw it differently than Light did.

Soon, we were going to ambush Higuchi after Misa got information out of him, confirming that he was in fact the Yotsuba Kira. He took the deal for the shinigami eyes from Rem, although, Light and Misa couldn't see her anymore due to their memories being erased. I was the only one who could see her.

  It was a lot to take in, and I was so scared that I had forgotten most of what happened in that moment. I even don't recall what the plan was, but I do remember going in the helicopter with L and Light. We all wore headsets to communicate with each other and mine and Light's father as we went about the plan.

  I was the lookout while Light and L operated the helicopter. I saw Ryuk flying to the side and Rem was in Higuchi's car. "Dad, what's going on down there?" I asked through my headset. "We are gaining on him, get ready." he said. "Got it," I replied.

  "Get ready to land," I told my husband and brother. L moved the helicopter towards the closed off highway where the cop cars were surrounding Higuchi's car.

Higuchi wasn't complying with instructions to make the arrest less intense.

"Get a headset on him," ordered L, and the officers that were detaining Higuchi obeyed.

  "Tell us how you were committing the murders," L commanded. Higuchi just gritted his teeth and wouldn't tell him anything. "I'm not talking!" he laughed with a mad smile. "If you won't tell us anything this will only make things more difficult." "How did you commit the killings?" "A notebook...I used names and then they died." the madman grunted.

"Get the notebook," L told the officers. When Dad tried to pick up the notebook, he started screaming. "Dad, what's wrong?" Light asked in horror. "There's a monster!" he had seen Rem. L and I looked at each other.

  Matsuda brought the Death Note to L and he held it like it was a foreign creature, and then he jumped at the sight of Rem. I made eye contact with the shinigami and she nodded, she was still on mine and L's side in this whole ordeal; I still found it a miracle that I was able to convince her and Ryuk to help stop Light. You have a good heart, Saki Lawliet. Your goodness will help you through this. she told me in my mind.

Will it work?

I'm not certain dear one, but Ryuk and I will do the best we can to help you and L.

"Ryuzaki, let me see that." Light asked for the notebook, and I was dreading what would happen next.

The second my brother's fingers touched the Death Note, his eyes widened in shock and he began to scream inhumanly. He bellowed like a wild animal getting caught in a trap. All his memories came back...

"Light, are you okay?" I asked my brother with worry. "Yeah," he replied softly. "Seeing the monster would have startled anyone," L said sympathetically.

  L looked at me, "Are you doing alright?" "Yes, Ryuzaki," I had to play along that I hadn't seen Rem before touching the Death Note. My power still allowed me to not be affected by its supernatural abilities because my immunity was still there.

  I got up from my seat and put my hand on my husband's shoulder affectionately, and then he held my hand and stroked it. He laced his fingers with mine. He then kissed me on the cheek. "We're okay, sweetheart."

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Light prick his finger with a pointed needle inside his watch, and another compartment showed a torn page from the Death Note. With a crazed look in his eye and then he wrote Higuchi's name with his blood, the madman instantly began gasping for air and then he collapsed on the ground dead.

"He died!" "Another Kira must be here." "What's going on?!" "We need to get out of here now!" The highway was erupting in chaos. We had caught Higuchi, but the real Kira was sitting with me and L in the helicopter. L and I knew Light was Kira. Our plan was coming along, and the hardest part was about to unfold.
