Earlier That Morning

(Ava's POV)

Wrapped up tightly in his arms under the sheets was the best damn way to spend a lazy day with Hoseok.

After our morning meal with the crew in the main house, we made our way back to the room.  The two of us spent the morning watching old BTS performances on my laptop while he gave me the insight that every ARMY wishes to hear.

All the events that happened when JK and Tae phased caused me to think about my future with Jung Hoseok.  When we first were bonded, I didn't think too much of the beyond each day.

I spent all of last week with him at his place and it felt normal.  Like I was home.   It wasn't out of the ordinary to wake up next to him, go through my daily routine in his bathroom, etc.

That was all the confirmation I needed to relocate.

Besides, those I cared about the most were now in Korea, not America.

When Elle and I put in our leave of absence to join Sienna, my boss bluntly said two months at max or look for a new job.   I was already thinking of either changing jobs or looking for a new career since it was beginning to drain the life out of me.

Bonding with Hoseok was what I needed to finally leave that position that no longer sparked joy.

I didn't even have reservations about leaving family behind.

Five years ago, my mom was bound and determined to hook me up with one of the sons of her high society friends.  Her dream was for me to become a proper housewife taking care my rich husband.  Dad, well, he always told me to do what made me happy but he had no spine around  mom.  I know mom loves me, but she loves her social status more.

What mom never realized I was never the 'good quiet wife-material girl'.  I had only abstained from sex because my degree was more important and all the guys around me were slimeballs.  Yes, even her country club friends.  Their sons were the worst.

Besides, I was waiting for Hoseok. Even if I didn't realize it yet.

The death of the Millers allowed me the opportunity to shut down that arranged marriage shit and focus on my best friend.

Mom was furious and cut me off.  I had been working to support myself during college as a barista and had an almost full-ride scholarship for both my undergrad and masters, so it didn't bother me that much.

Dad found a way to sneak money into my savings account without her knowing.  He disguised them as 'Golfing Trips'.  Mom still doesn't know that I have 50k saved thanks to my father and his big heart.  If only he would stand up to her.

After running into them at a restaurant two years later, mom called me in tears wanting me back in her life.  I refused to reconcile until she apologized first.

Elle went through a similar issue, but her circumstances were different.  Her Dad left their family for his much younger secretary when she was 12.  However, he lost everything in the divorce.  There was a cheating clause that Elle's mom had snuck into their prenup which caused him to forfeit almost everything.

Elle's mom was unimpressed about her path in music.  She pushed Elle into modeling.  Mrs. Jackson allowed Elle to get her bachelors but no masters.  The agreement was that she had to keep up her portfolio and sign with an agency.  Even though she dabbled in some smaller gigs, she had no desire to pursue this path.  Elle started working on her masters quietly right after graduation.  She had just completed her capstone when her mom discovered the truth.  She threw Elle out of their family home.  That was the day before the Miller's death.
