"Beep!"
"Beep!"
I buried my head under my pillow as my alarm continued to go off. I heard someone open the door and I groaned.
"Time to wake up!" I heard mom say as she opened the curtains.
I rolled over in bed and covered my face with my hands.
"The first day of school! Come on, get up." She said as she kicked my foot and walked out, closing the door behind her.
I groaned and pulled myself out of bed and walked over to my closet, searching through my collection of my parents' old band shirts that they gave me as a kid.
I threw on a Sleeping With Sirens shirt. Most kids probably haven't even heard of this band, but my parents love them so I've listened to them my whole life.
I pulled on some jeans and ran a brush through my blondish hair.
I slipped on some converse and walked downstairs.
Mom was in the kitchen, feeding my baby brother, Alex Jr, while dad was on his laptop in the living room.
"Well morning sleepy head, I was wondering when we'd see you." Mom said as she poured some cereal into a bowl and placed it in front of me.
I looked down at my coco puffs and sighed.
"Anna, high school isn't gonna be that bad." She said as she sat down, spooning a spoonful into Junior's mouth.
"High school's so overrated mom! I'm not gonna have any friends!" I said and she snorted.
"You're gonna have all your friends from middle school." She said, ruffling my hair.
"What's she whining about now?" Dad asked as he walked in, placing a kiss on my head.
"Morning dad." I said.
"Morning sweetie. So what's she complaining about?" He asked mom after they shared a small kiss.
"She's complaining about having to go to high school." she said as she picked Junior up out of his high-chair.
"Ah I see." He said, sitting down at the table.
"But you guys probably flew through high school! I'm gonna be the outcast!" I said and my parents busted out laughing.
I looked at them in confusion as they continued to laugh.
"Um, is there something I missed?" I asked and my mom sighed.
"Honey you're insane if you think we had a good time in high school." she said and I quirked an eyebrow in confusion.
"Huh?" I asked and she sighed before sitting down, Junior bouncing on her lap.
"When I started high school, I had just gotten out of rehab. I literally had no friends. You have lots of friends from middle school."
"Wait, rehab for what?"
She sighed. "It's definitely not something I'm proud of. But I attempted suicide at age thirteen." She said and my eyes widened.
"W-why?" I asked in shock.
"Cause I had been bullied all my life, you know, I was literally thirteen and I had no friends. But when I started high school, your father here was my first friend in high school." she said patting dad's shoulder.
"So you guys have known each other since high school?" I asked and she nodded.
"That's where we first met." Dad said, wrapping an arm around Mom's shoulder.
"Are you sure I'll be okay? What about bullies?" I asked and mom laughed.
"Honey bullies aren't half as bad today as they were when we were young okay? You've got nothing to worry about." She said with a smile."
"Okay, then fine, I'll go." I said and Dad laughed.
"Did you think you had a choice?" He asked as he got up. Mom handed Junior to him as he walked him upstairs.
"Honey you're gonna be fine." She said.
"Plus Aunt Riley and Uncle Ryder are coming over tonight, you'll be able to see your cousins." She said and I groaned.
"Mom they're babies. All they do is eat, sleep and poop. They're not that entertaining." I said.
"Did you mean Aunt Riley and Uncle Ryder or the babies?" Dad asked as he walked in and my parents started to laugh.
I cracked a smile. "The babies dad." I said.
"Well too bad. It's almost time to leave, you ready?" He asked and Mom looked at the clock.
"Shit, I gotta get ready for work!" She said, running upstairs.
"Yeah, I just need to get my bag." I said as I got up.
"Then hop to it." Dad said as he pushed me upstairs.
I walked upstairs and grabbed my bag from my room, just as mom was walking about of her room in a sports bra and a pencil skirt, putting in one of her earrings.
"You need some help Mom?" I asked and she shook her head.
"Well, actually could you grab the blouse that's on my bed? I have to go check on Junior." She said, walking into the nursery.
I walked into my parents room and grabbed the shirt she was talking about. I walked into the nursery and handed it to her.
"Thanks honey." She said as she pulled it over her head.
*Knock*knock*
I turned around and dad was standing at the doorway.
"You guys ready to go?" He asked as Mom picked up Junior.
"Yeah. Anna, could you grab my purse?" She asked and I ran into her room and got it as her and Dad walked downstairs.
Mom slipped on her heels, which were sitting by the door. As we all walked out the door.
We got in the car as Mom sat in the front seat doing her makeup and Dad buckled Junior into his car seat.
"What music should we listen to today? You get to pick Anna." Mom said as she handed me a small stack of CDs. I flipped through them. Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, All Time Low, Mayday Parade, etc.
I handed her a Pierce The Veil CD and she smiled at me.
"Good choice." she said as she put it in.
Bestitos started playing as we pulled out of the driveway.
When we stopped in front of the school, I groaned.
"Keep your thoughts positive Anna. We'll be here to pick you up right after school." She said and I smiled.
"Okay, bye mom, bye dad!" I said, getting out of the car and walking towards the building. This didn't seem to bad. If my parents could do it, I'm certainly sure that I can too.
