"Alex we gotta go!" I yelled upstairs as I looked in the mirror and adjusted my earrings.
"Mom why do I need a babysitter, I'm freaking fifteen!" Anna whined as I walked into the living room and kissed Junior on the head.
"Anna, I told you that you could stay at one of your friends houses tonight." I said, walking into the kitchen and grabbing my purse off the counter.
"They're all busy." She said.
"Well I'm sorry about that." I said kissing her head. I walked back into the hallway.
"Alex!" I yelled upstairs just as he came downstairs while adjusting his tie.
"Now be good for the babysitter Anna. You can stay in your room if you want. We'll be home around midnight." I said as we walked out the door.
I got in the front seat of the car and sighed as I checked my reflection in the mirror.
"You look fine babe." Alex said, leaning over and kissing my cheek.
"Do we really have to go to this?" I asked, dreading having to go to my High school reunion.
"We told Ryder and Riley that we'd be there." He said as he put the keys in the ignition.
"Yeah I know." I said sighing.
"Come one, it's gonna be fine." He said, grabbing my hand in between the center console and intertwining his fingers with mine.
I smiled at him. I cannot believe that after all of these years, he can still be so sweet and make my heart race.
As we pulled into the parking lot of the high school I groaned.
"I never thought I'd have to see this place again." I said looking at the hell hole. See, Anna went to another high school across town. I wouldn't ever want her to go to my old high school, the unfortunate hell that it was.
"Well it's not gonna be that bad." Alex said, kissing my hand before letting go of it and getting out of the car.
"Hey strangers." I heard a voice say and I turned around and smiled.
"Well if it isn't Aiden Anthony James." I said as I hugged him.
"So how are you guys doing?" Aiden asked as Alex took my hand and we walked towards the building.
"Pretty good. Two kids, one fifteen and one two. How 'bout you?"
"Divorced." Aiden said with a laugh.
When we walked in the doors, the halls were covered in pictures and artifacts from the class of 2014. I looked over a couple and found a picture of Aiden, Riley, Ryder, Alex and I.
And as I spent my night laughing with my three best friends and my husband, I realized that high school was in the past. And the past didn't matter.
I made it. I was happy.
