Alone

Ch. 24 : Dad, this is Riley.

When we arrived at the jail, we all had to get verification tags with our names and purpose on them. When we got to the room, we requested only I go in first.

The officer opened a door to a small room with my dad sitting in a chair at a table, when I came in, his face lit up.

"Nova, I didn't think you'd come." He said standing up to give me a hug. 

"Well, I'm here. And I've got someone for you to meet."

I signaled for Riley to come in. She stepped in awkwardly. I could tell she was nervous, she fiddled with her hair when she was nervous.

"Dad, this is Riley."

My dad looked shocked, surprised, all of the above.

"Hi." She said awkwardly, standing beside me. 

"You were right dad, I did know her. She's actually one of my new friends."

"You guys look so alike." He said. And I actually just noticed. We both had our dad's brown eyes and brown hair except mine was more blondish like my mom's hair, and hers was more curlier then mine. Her skin was a bit more tan then mine but hey, I like never spend time in the sun.

"Yeah." I said awkwardly. We both sat down at the table.

"Can you tell me about my mom?" Riley asked suddenly, folding her arms on the table.

"Well, her name was Emily Schaefer. She was almost a twin of you, she had dark brown hair, just like you and dark brown eyes, almost exactly like yours. She lived here in town, but she moved to California I think, after she gave you up for adoption. I havn't heard from her since."

I saw a small tear fall down Riley's face as she quickly wiped it off. "Well, dad, I want you to meet our friends." I said, signaling for the guys to come in.

Alex walked in first, coming over and standing next to me. Aiden then followed and stood by Riley and then Ryder stood by Aiden.

"Dad, this is Aiden and Ryder. You've met Alex before." I said remembering the times that my dad had met Alex.

"Nice to meet you sir." Aiden said reaching out a hand to my father, who looked proud.

"Nice to meet you." He said. Ryder copied and did the same thing.

"Well, Riley's dating Aiden and I'm dating Alex. Riley and Aiden have been together for almost a year and me and Alex have been dating for about three months."

My dad nodded slowly. "That's nice. I'm glad you guys have found such respectful boyfriends."

Who was this man? This was not my father.

"So what did you do for your birthday Nova?" My dad asked sitting up staright.

"Well, us five took a road trip to Disney World in Florida last weekend."

"That sounds fun." 

We all stood / sat there, in awkward silence.

"How's your mother?" My dad asked randomly, looking me in the eyes.

"She's good. She's been working less and we've been spending more time together."

"That's good. I was hoping you guys would get closer."

The officer walked in the door, alerting us that our time was up. "Well, bye dad." I said as we walked out of the room. "Love you." I said after  everyone had walked out and I was the only one standing in the door way, Alex waiting for me in front of me.

"Love you too sugarplum. Tell Riley to call me sometime, so we can talk more."

I nodded. "Bye dad." I said walking out the door with one last wave. That was the first time my dad had called me 'sugarplum' since I was six.

Alex walked out of the jail with me, his hand entwined with mine.

We all piled into the car and drove home. The car ride was pretty silent. This was a very awkward, emotional trip.

Uggggggggggh sorry about the really blah chapter! I'm probably gonna rewrite it this weekend. I couldn't really figure out how to word everything.

I'm gonna have more 'interesting' things in the next chapter. I'll try.

Also, I'm becoming flooded with so many new story ideas, so I might not be devoting ALL of my time to this story.
